PETERSON WINS TWICE DURING ROUND 3 OF THE STARS OF PGP KART SERIES

KENT, Wash. — (June 8, 2011) The third round of the Stars of PGP Kart Series this past Saturday, June 4, saw a large field of rental karts, great on-track action and some unforeseen results — all under sunny skies and the warmest temperatures of the year.
Class point battles tightened as contenders battled and top positions were swapped in Round 3. Among the winners on Saturday were Jerry Peterson, who finished first in two classes, and Derek Hansen, who recorded his first career victory.

Jerry Peterson was a double winner during Round 3o the Stars of PGP Kart Series on June 5 at PGP Motorsports Park. Peterson finished first in the Rental Expert and Rotax Master classes.

The next two rounds of the Stars of PGP Kart Series on 25-26 June will be held in conjunction with the season’s first visit to PGP by the I-5 Corridor Series. You can get your weekend started early by taking advantage of offer to have exclusive use of our state-of-the-art track for practice on Friday, June 24. You can even stay at the track Friday night so you’ll be right here for Saturday’s action.

Rental Karts
Maurice Shawver (6) leads a pack of Rental Kart class drivers through a turn.

The Rental Kart category was split to include both Novice and Expert classes and ballast was added to further even the playing field. The Expert class continued to be the more intense — as you’d expect with the talent in the field — of the two with the third different pole winner and third different feature winner.

Michael Kinney scored a breakout pole position in the Expert class then backed it up with a victory in the heat. He slipped back to second in the final while Jerry Peterson marched to the front from the last starting position en route to the final win. Maurice Shawver captured the final step of the podium while Cameron Grimes-Hess, who entered Round 3 as the point leader, finished fifth to further tighten up the points.

Rotax
Rotax Master class driver Kevin Mejia (05) leads Rotax Junior driver Tessa Daniells (33).

There was an incredible turn of events in the final of the Rotax Masters class, as Andy Skalet found the second step of the podium when both Todd O’Neel and Kevin Mejia suffered misfortunes in front of him. Jerry Peterson dominated the class, taking his first win in the category this season.

In Rotax Senior the victory went to Derek Wang, with Cameron Grimes-Hess in second and Aaron Bizier finishing third. Siblings Tessa Daniells and Caleb Daniells were the winners in the Rotax Junior and Rotax Micro/Mini classes, respectively.

Shifters
Stock Moto Light class winner Derek Hanson (86) races ahead of teammate Sean Naslunch (361).

In Stock Moto Light the dominance of the Naslund Motorsport Birel team continued with another front row in qualifying with the top time going to Sean Naslund over teammate Derek Hansen. Hansen got the better start in the heat race and led the field through the first few laps until a slight mistake allowed Naslund to take the point position en route to the victory.

In the final Hansen once again got the jump but this time he stayed mistake-free and collected his first career win. Naslund was the runner up for the team’s second 1-2 of the season. Third went to Northwest Race Karts driver Craig Sender, whose teammate Jerrott Cangie finished just off the podium in fourth.
