GET READY TO GET MUDDY! THE DIRTY DASH IS COMING TO PGP JULY 9

KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 31, 2011) When we were younger, our Gramma always said: “Never wrestle with a pig ... you both get dirty — but the pig likes it!”

But Gramma never said anything about The Dirty Dash, so PGP Motorsports Park is thrilled to host this charitable organization on July 9 for a “mud run obstacle course where military boot camp meets your inner 5 year-old’s fantasy and subsequently converts boy to man and then ... man to swine.”

That little quote comes from the hilarious Dirty Dash website, which sums up the qualifications needed for success as: “Endurance to trudge up mountains of sludge, courage to overcome uncompromising obstacles, a complete lack of shame to wallow in pits of mud and a smile to show through at the end!”

The Dirty Dash at PGP will start at 9 a.m. with competitive waves followed by the "fun" waves. There will be a break for the Piglet Plunge (over 2 and under 12) around noon and the kids will run between 12:30-1 p.m. The afternoon session will begin with competitive waves followed by "fun" waves again. The parking lot opens at 7 a.m. so you can stretch, shake out the pre-race jitters, and size up the competition.

Runners can go solo or team up with five to 20 of their filthiest friends. Individuals will run first in separate heats from the teams. For the teams, all members will run the entire course and are free to help each other out. Before the final mud pit, faster runners will be held so that the entire team hits the slop together. The clock stops when the entire team has crossed the finish line (any team that tries to cross without all its members is subject to public shaming).

Speaking of public shaming, did we mention costumes are not only permitted, but encouraged? Prizes will be handed out for The Dirty Dash Dirty 'Stache Award, The Dirty Dash Mud-Runway Award, The Dirty Dash Cleanest Name Award, and The Dirty Dash Filthiest Family Award, among others.

More information and registration is available at www.thedirtydash.com. Price per person is:
• $35 if before the end of March 13
• $40 if before the end of April 17
• $45 if before the end of May 15
• $50 if before the end of June 26

The Dirty Dash will benefit your cardiovascular system, body image, and a charity to be named later. Races will also have a “Hot Wash” where spectators can purchase balloons to throw at the participants, the benefits also going to charity.

Competitors under 15 must sign a waiver and have an adult run with them for the entire race. Spectators are free to watch, walk around and throw water balloons bought at the Hog Wash at participants.

So, bring a towel, a bag for your dirty clothes and shoes, and a smile. A way for you to clean off will be provided, so don't worry about your car on the drive home.

Jonathon Gomez Posts Third Place Finish at Showdown

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (January 30, 2011) Jonathon Gomez from Twin Falls, Idaho had to survive 225-laps of intense action in the 8th annual NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown in order to drive to a third place finish in the prestigious event that attracts the top racers in the country. Gomez qualified 14th in the field of 40-cars and posted his best ever finish in his third try at the marquee event.

46 NASCAR K&N Pro Series competitors from across the country attempted to qualify for one of 40 spots on the starting grid and while Gomez was competitive during two practice sessions, the Craig Raudman led Heritage Cattle Co/Century Boatland/United Oil crew were anxious about qualifying. At stake was a starting position in the event. When qualifying was completed, Gomez clicked off his fastest lap of the weekend (18.587 seconds) around the ultra-fast half-mile paved oval, but was relegated to the 14th starting position in the all-star line up.

The 225-lap event would be broken into three segments. Two 100-lap segments and a final 25-lap shootout to the finish. During the first segment, Gomez just let the race unfold and stayed out of trouble dodging several incidents that took out several cars. By lap 50, he had made his way inside the top ten and moved to as high as sixth place by lap 102 when the first break was called.

The ten minute break allowed teams to make small chassis adjustments and put on a fresh set of tires for the next 100-laps. The Heritage Cattle Co. crew freed up the car a bit for the second 100-laps.

The second segment went caution free for 95-laps during which Gomez fell back as far as tenth but by lap 197, he had moved back up to sixth place. Also during the second segment his Chevrolet developed an oil leak which had the team concerned as NASCAR officials were ever watchful of the car.

The dash to the finish in the last 25-lap segment brought out a lot of fireworks as several of the front runners tangled for position causing numerous caution periods. The last caution set up a 10-lap dash to the finish and by this time Gomez had worked his way up to the third position in sight of the leaders.

Gomez held his own but was unable to catch the top two and settled for a third place finish and his best result to date in the All-Star event.

"I am thrilled with the finish," Gomez said. "Craig Raudman and this whole Heritage Cattle Co. crew did a fantastic job all weekend and this is an awesome way to close out last season and begin this season. I owe so much to my dad (John Gomez) and my wife Chelsia for all their support."

While the smoke from his car had many concernd, Gomez offered, "What smoke? The car was awesome all night and we were able to make the right adjustments late to put us in the position. I was able to avoid the wrecks this time out and bring home a great finish for the team. I can't wait for Phoenix."

Gomez will open up the 14-race 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series campaign February 23 at Phoenix (AZ) Int'l Raceway. Gomez finished 4th at PIR last spring en route to a sixth place final points finish. Gomez led all competitors last season with laps completed (1700 out of 1705) and was the recipient of the Driver Achievement Award for the 2010 season.

Gomez will also defend his SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour championship title again this season in the popular California based Late Model tour. The SRL season gets underway April 2 at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. Jonathon Gomez is the 2010 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Champion. Gomez is also a winner on the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series and in the Mustang Challenge Series at Miller Motorsports Park. MOLLY HELMUTH CLOSES BOOK ON 2010; LOOKS AHEAD TO 2011 RACING SEASON WITH NEW PIT CREW

SEATTLE (Jan. 28, 2011) — The final piece of business from the 2010 racing season was wrapped up last Saturday night, the same night Molly Helmuth finalized some important details for the upcoming season.

The 15-year-old from Seattle was recognized with a beautiful trophy as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rookie of the Year award in the Mini-Stock Division at the Evergreen Speedway Awards Banquet, held at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, Wash.

Molly also received a trophy for finishing fifth in the season standings, and $60 as the winner of a raffle drawing from Mini Stock Division sponsor Foster Press of Lake Stevens, Wash.

“The cash was a nice surprise, and the whole event was very nice and well put together,” said Molly. “Traci Hobbs told me that I was the inspiration for putting on the event after talking with Doug Hobbs, one of the new promoters of Evergreen Speedway, at a karting event. I said ‘All I want is my Rookie of the Year trophy’ and they made that happen."

Earlier Saturday night, Molly crossed an important item off her racing to-do list: finding an experienced pit crew to help her compete in the Mini-Stock Division at Evergreen and in select events with the Northwest Pro4 Truck Series. After meeting with Molly and her parents, Mike and Jana Helmuth, Roger Habich and Aaron Hoskin agreed to be the Roosevelt High School student’s pit crew for 2011. Habich will serve as driver coach and crew chief, with Hoskin as lead mechanic.

A veteran late-model and sports-car racer, Habich has been involved on the track or in the infield at Evergreen Speedway since 1986. In 2009 he served as crew chief for Natalie Sather, helping the NASCAR Drive for Diversity selectee earn Rookie of the Year honors in her first season racing a stock car.

Hoskin has been involved in late-model racing at Evergreen Speedway since 2006. After working as a tire and chassis specialist for Total Velocity Motorsports, supporting drivers Habich and Jeff Knight, Hoskin joined Habich working on Sather’s crew in 2009.

“Having Roger and Aaron agree to be my pit crew relieved a lot of stress for myself and my family,” said Molly. “Getting two trophies and a pit crew on Saturday night, I am one happy girl and looking forward to the 2011 season. It should be a good one.”

Molly’s Mini-Stock ride for this season at Evergreen Speedway, a rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang, has been placed in the capable hands of Habich and Hoskin, with all work expected to be completed in time for on-track practice in March. A four-cylinder race truck was also recently purchased for her to use in a handful of Northwest Pro4 Truck Series races this season.

Supported by sponsors Kings Transmission, Security Imaging Corporation, Squires Machine, Novastar Development Inc., Foss MotorSports and Transport Services, B&D Sheet Metal and Jana Helmuth CPA, Molly’s tentative schedule for 2011 currently looks like this:

ASA PROMOTERS ARE OPTIMISTIC GOING INTO THE 2011 SEASON

Kevin Ramsell, American Speed Association PR

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Thursday, January 27, 2011) - Looking ahead to the 2011 racing season, many are wondering if this will be the year that short track racing will return to its glory. ASA recently polled some of their ASA Member Track and Series Promoters on their thoughts going into their season. Many feel optimistic.

Brad Allen, Promoter of Ace Speedway an ASA Member Track in Altamahaw, NC, will be entering his second season in his role. "Things here are going well. Our 2011 schedule is out and full of a great variety of racing events. The lessons learned throughout our first year of managing the race track have proved very useful for approaching what will be our 55th anniversary at Ace Speedway," Allen said. "Our season ticket sales have been solid and the preseason rule meetings were very well attended. By all accounts, the fans are ready for the season opener on March 25th and the number of race teams that have registered car numbers point to full fields in all classes. The momentum created last year with a great 2010 season has produced an unmistakable air of anticipation here that has filtered through the surrounding community and we can't wait to see what this year holds. Our goal of returning Ace Speedway to prominence continues and we thank ASA for providing support and direction to do so."

The ASA Midwest Tour is entering their fifth season of competition. Tim Olson, ASA Midwest Tour President, is seeing some positive signs. "When you watch the news, many are seeing that a lot of blue collar jobs are picking up again," Olson said. "Many of our racers work those blue collar jobs and for them to get a steady income, it will also allow them to come and race at the short tracks and series. Things are turning for the better."

At Lonesome Pines Raceway, an ASA Member Track in Coeburn, VA, Promoter Harold Crook is excited about the upcoming season. "We have our first race sponsorship sold among several other race events that have sponsors already," Crook said. "We have 19 events on the schedule this season and every one of them is special."

Not only is he the 2010 ASA NSRA Winged Sprint Car Champion, but Andy Alberding is returning as the club President in 2011. "We are very optimistic about the outlook of our 2011 season from this point," Alberding said. "We have assembled a diverse schedule of races across a wide area of the Pacific Northwest and all word so far is our car count will be even better than last year. We hope the fans will be able to make it out to see what a great show we can put on."

Ron and Scott Wimmer, the father/son promoter duo at State Park Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Wausau, WI, had a successful first season as the new promoters and are very optimistic about their second. "We are really excited for the 2011 season, we have a great schedule lined up and can't wait to get started. Last year was a big undertaking for us. We were very successful in some areas, but went through some growing pains in other areas," Ron Wimmer said. "Our car counts were awesome and we had over 13,500 people come through the gates in just our nine events. Thanks to help from great sponsors and fan support were able to pay a larger purse for a weekly show. We know if we continue to improve more fans will come out and more sponsors will want to be involved."

"Our focus for this year is to improve the little things week in and week out. Last year we made major renovations to the track and the facility. This year we want to make sure each night flows smoothly, the best thing for drivers and fans is when we can have everything running on time," Scott Wimmer said. "We have great racing, great fans, and noticed some tracks are even trying some things we did last year, so we look to continue to bring new and innovative ideas to each Thursday event. If we can do that and lead they way in short track racing in Wisconsin we will continue to see success at State Park Speedway."

Down in the Southwest, Randy Claypoole, President of ISCARS DASH Touring Sanctioned by ASA is looking at 2011 with a new approach. "We cannot ignore the obvious strain with the economy," Claypoole said. "The focus for us is dealing with expectations. ISCARS has decided to create our own reasonable expectations which are attainable and in turn will produce positive energy. Growth in 2011 will not be based on car count, but rather raising the bar of professional appearance, an affordable schedule of events, and a better entertainment package for the fans."

Mike Eames is the new General Manager at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City, UT. They are celebrating a milestone in 2011. "This is a special year for us at Rocky Mountain Raceways. We get to celebrate our 15th year racing at this facility along with the honor of having the 2010 ASA National Champion compete here," Eames said. "Bryan Wordelman did a fantastic job and we look to defend our title either with Bryan or another of our talented racers."

"Everything looks to be heading in the right direction," Adam Nelson, Promoter of Meridian Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Meridian, ID said. "Even with the economic situation, things are looking good at the Speedway. Drivers are doing what they can to come and race. They are either changing to a division they can compete in or not making many changes to their current cars. They want to come and race and they are doing what they can to do so. The fans are always looking for a good time at a low cost. We think we have cornered that market by providing some of the best entertainment in our part of Idaho."

"There is a lot of optimism overall in short track racing. The major reason is that this sport is affordable and anyone, no matter what their income level is, can participate," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "Many of our ASA Member Tracks and Series have a division that could work in someone's budget if they want to compete. If you are looking for great family entertainment, the cost of going to a short track event is almost the same as taking the family to see a movie at the local theatre. The action is live and exciting."

Huth also has a message for potential sponsors as well. "You hear about the high dollars that circulate around the upper levels of our sport. Short tracks and series have more affordable opportunities to reach out to the same audience that they would spend millions to attract. They are missing out on a great opportunity."

Steve Jones Leads RMCS Back Into Action in 2011

BOISE, IDAHO (January 25, 2011) The CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series is set to open its eighth season in 2011 featuring nine events at four very different facilities in the region. Defending champion Steve Jones of Boise, ID will lead a veteran core of drivers while welcoming in some new faces to the popular Late Model touring series.

The season will get started at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho with a 75-lap contest on Saturday, April 23. Last season, local standout and RMCS regular Bruce Quale captured his first career win to open the 2010 campaign. In 26 previous races at MVS there have been 15 different winners led by Bobby Latham III(4), John Dillon (3), Dave Minegar (3), James Eaton (2), Bryan Warf (2), Tom Hill (2), and John Newhouse (2). Eight other drivers have scored one win at the one-third mile bank oval.

Dave Minegar (#9) holds the track record at MVS with a quick lap of 14.216 seconds with eleven of his series leading 23 career Sharp Powder Coating Fast Time Awards coming at MVS. John Dillon is the only repeat winner in the past eight races at MVS picking up three victories.

The RMCS will return to MVS on June 11 and wrap up the season on September 10. Quale, Dillon, and Jonathon Gomez all picked up wins at MVS last season.

From the tight and tricky Magic Valley Speedway, the RMCS shifts gears and heads to Salt Lake City for the first of four races at the lightning fast 3/8-mile paved oval of Rocky Mountain Raceways on May 7. Last season, Jones scored his first two career series victories at RMR en route to the title.

The RMCS teams will return to RMR for the annual Memorial Day clash Monday, May 30. Jones is also the defending race winner. Local standout and 2010 A-1 Heating & Air Conditioning Rookie-of-the-Year Eric Rhead picked up two victories at RMR last season as he closed the year with a fifth place final points finish.

RMR will host two more events on July 9 and on August 20. In 23 events at RMR, Jimmy Eaton has four victories to lead all competitors. Two-time series champion Zan Sharp has three trips to victory lane with Minegar, Lynn Hardy, Dillon, Jones, and Rhead all scoring two wins. Six other drivers have scored victories as well. Brian Levant from Calgary, Canada is the track record holder with a lap of 14.906 seconds set last season.

A single visit to Meridian (ID) Speedway June 25 marks the middle of the season and a 125-lap contest. Last season both Brett Thompson and Las Vegas, Nevada’s Thane Alderman scored wins at the newly repaved ¼-mile historic oval. In nine previous RMCS races at Meridian Speedway there have been nine different winners. Dave Minegar holds the track record at Meridian with a lap of 13.145 seconds while Dillon is the only repeat fast time winner with three quick trips.

A special two-day event at Stateline Stadium Speedway in Post Falls, Idaho highlights the 2011 schedule. August 6-7 is the prestigious Idaho 200 and this season will feature the RMCS for the event on Sunday afternoon. Heat races and trophy dashes along with qualifying will take place on Saturday.

This is the fourth year the RMCS has anchored the weekend but the first time the series headlines the Sunday race collecting season championship points. Jonathon Gomez is the track record holder at Stateline with a 13.466 second lap around the wide quarter mile oval. In three previous trips to Stateline there have been three different RMCS winners. Last Season, Zan Sharp returned to victory lane in the RMCS race on Saturday and John Dillon collected the win in the Idaho 200 on Sunday.

The RMCS utilizes a racing format not found in ANY other regional touring series around the country. The top 20 qualifiers are inverted for every race putting fast time in the 20th starting position. This format ensures race fans see what they paid for and that is passing. Each driver is awarded three points per position gained in the event. Points are also awarded for qualifying and heat race finishes. Through the history of the series, the winning driver has averaged a 14th place starting position. To ensure competition, the RMCS pays its race purse based on total point accumulation for the event and provides several special performance awards for each event.

In the series record books you will find two two-time series champions in Zan Sharp (04, 05) and Dave Minegar (06, 08). John Newhouse, John Dillon, and Steve Jones are the other series titlists. Dave Minegar holds the qualifying mark with 23 career Sharp Powder Coating Fast Time Awards along with six series victories. Eaton, Sharp, and Dillon also have six wins.

John Newhouse has logged more laps completed with over 5500 laps and joins Minegar with most career starts at 59. Craig Bell holds the career mark with most top five finishes at 33 while Newhouse has 47 career top ten finishes in 59 starts.

Jonathon Gomez Crowned SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Champ

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (January 24, 2010) Jonathon Gomez, a rising star in NASCAR and racing on the west coast, celebrated his first touring series championship this past Saturday night at the Crystal Place in Bakersfield, CA. Gomez capped a successful 2010 campaign by claiming the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour championship in his first year of competition in the ten year old series.

Gomez scored two victories and closed out the campaign with eight consecutive top five finishes to etch his name in west coast racing history with his championship.

“I just want to thank everyone again for the opportunity they gave me this year," stated the 28-year old champion from Twin Falls, Idaho. "SRL Tour car owner Bob Strandwold gave us an opportunity to compete at a high level and it is great to reward him with a championship. My team and my sponsors; Century Boatland, Heritage Cattle, United Oil and my Dad (John Gomez) made all of this possible."

"I’m just so thankful for the opportunity to be in a position to win a championship in a major series like the SRL. My crew chief Ron (Copeland) and Craig (Raudman, on the West series) did an excellent job preparing the car all year. We had no mechanical failures all season which is what it took to win this championship against all the great teams in the SRL.”

Gomez also competed last season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and finished sixth in the final standings to cap his first full year in the West's oldest stock car series. Gomez scored three top five and six top ten performances with his best result of second place at Iowa Speedway last May. Gomez averaged a 10.2 finishing position in all races and completed 1,700 of 1,705 laps (99.6%) to lead all competitors. He has started 20 NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring ten top ten finishes.

Gomez will defend his SRL championship in 2011 while also competing for the series title in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. The SRL will kick off its 11th season Saturday, April 2 at the "Bullring" in Las Vegas, NV while the NKNPS will launch its 58th season February 24 at Phoenix (AZ) International Raceway. His 2011 campaign is set to begin this weekend at the annual Toyota All-Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, CA. Gomez will compete in all three featured races at the Showdown.

The prestigious event will be highlighted by the 225-lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series all-star race Saturday night Jan. 29. The schedule also includes a 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model race on Friday, Jan. 28, and a 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model race on Saturday night.

“If we’re going to go down there, we might as well do some racing,” Gomez said. “We think it would say a lot for our team and maybe get more exposure if we went out there and did really good in all three races. If we can go out there and get a podium finish in each event, I think that will say something for our team and for me as a driver. We’ll have a lot of fun doing it, too.”

Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. Jonathon Gomez is the 2010 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Champion. Gomez is also a winner on the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. MEET TOM BERROW - ASA BRITISH COLUMBIA LATE MODEL TOUR CONTENDER

Courtesy: www.canadawestracing.com

With a racing career that started when he was 17, Coquitlam’s Tom Berrow has raced almost every division possible and has proven in the past 30 years that he is the man to beat and continues to prove this today as he prepares for the upcoming 2011 season which will take him throughout his home province of British Columbia.

Tom has lived most of his life working as a backhoe operator living alongside his wife Mary Lou, daughter Shannon and son Shane who has also taken an interest in racing after years of watching his dad do it.

Tom first got into racing at Langley Speedway where he watched lots of great competitors race. Tom’s dad had raced at Digney Speedway in Burnaby, BC for a couple of years in the mid-50’s. This is probably why Tom decided to try it out for himself, buying a B Super Stock in 1970. Tom’s first night of racing was one that he remembers well, managing to qualify 8th quickest out of a 16 car field. When Tom first started racing, he always looked up to veteran Richard Petty which influenced his racing style. After racing from 1970-1976 at Langley, Tom won his first championship in 1976 in the A Super Stock class, dethroning long time champ Gordie Hemrich who’s son Dave is now a competitor in the ASA BC Late Model Tour. Tom continued winning into the next season adding yet another championship. After a year off in 1978, Tom decided to get back into racing and moved to Skagit, a dirt track speedway where he raced from 1979-1981 finishing 3rd, 2nd and 1st in those 3 years in the championship standings. In 1980, Tom and the crew decided to miss a point’s race at Skagit to run a big Open Comp dirt race, the Oregon Carpet Exchange Cabin-Craft 100, in Medford, Oregon. With a 108 car field, Tom did not do well on his first qualifying lap, but on his second lap, Tom picked it up and qualified 22nd and managed to finish 5th in the main event. “While pleased with the result, we ended up losing the Skagit championship by one point that year.”

Tom raced all over the Pacific Northwest from 1982-83 in the Open Comp division and had a dominant year in 1983, winning 9 out of 18 races with only one finish outside of the top 3, as well as winning the Open Comp championship at Langley. Tom then went into the ASA West Division and the NASCAR Northwest Tour where he raced from 1984-1994 with most of the seasons being partial due to financial reasons. After selling his equipment at the end of the 1994 season, Tom was out of racing for 13 years until he was approached by long time racer John Ross about possibly racing in the Katana Sportsman Tour and, well, he just could not resist.

Tom recently added to his championships by winning the 2010 Katana Championship title. The series was one which Tom enjoyed greatly. Tom continued to say that he loved the competition level of the division, having all of the cars qualifying around the same time made for some great racing. Tom also stated that he loved to not just win, but having to work for it. Every night out he would have to work to try to get the best qualifying time and work his way through the field in the main event, which was something that he loved the most about the division. Tom went on to say that he loves being able to compete with the young talent being that he is the “old guy” of the series. Tom would also like to give credit to his owner John Ross for allowing him to race and to his crew for keeping the car race ready every night out.

The Katana series was one that has been a favourite of mine and others for a long time, but the upcoming season will be much different. First off, the series will now be called the ASA British Columbia Late Model Tour. The change was put in place by new owner John Ross who has taken over ownership after the series came up for sale. The series will be sanctioned by the American Speed Association, better known as ASA. This new series will be overseen by new Race Director Rob Angus. The new changes to the series will help race tracks, drivers and sponsors gain national recognition, which in turn, will increase car count and fan base. The changes will also bring a more professional atmosphere on a night to night basis. In 2011, the series has added a new track to their schedule, Vernon's Motoplex Speedway.

DANA LIFTS HER TEAM TO VICTORY IN CHARITY KART RACE

TUMWATER, Wash. (Jan. 19, 2011) — A last minute call for help turned into a trip to Victory Lane for Jessica Dana.

The 16-year-old from Tumwater, Wash., drove bookend shifts to help lift Team Rubbin’s Racin’ to victory in the 3rd annual Worker Appreciation Kart Enduro on Saturday, Jan. 15 at Apex Karting. Featuring 13 teams and benefiting the Race Officials Division Fund of the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC), the six-hour endurance race was presented by the Ground Pounder Drivers Association.

“This is the third year that we’ve run this race, and this year’s event was definitely the most exciting,” said Apex Karting co-owner Walker Armstrong. “Watching Jessie’s incredible performance against seasoned road racers was fun for everyone there.”

Because of an illness, Rubbin’s Racin’ team leader Rod Powell came up a driver short the day before the event. After hearing of her reputation and then seeing Jessica race at Apex on Friday night, Powell contacted Armstrong to get her phone number. Jessica, who holds several track records at Apex, was more than happy to do some racing for a good cause.

After qualifying the 9hp kart first of the 13 teams, Jessica started second because the pole position had been auctioned off. She drove the entire two-hour first segment, completing 198 circuits to give her team a three-lap lead heading into the first intermission. An on-track incident in the second segment wiped out the team’s lead, but Jessica jumped at the chance to get behind the wheel for the third and final segment.

Starting three laps behind the leader, Jessica blazed through the Apex circuit and — helped by a driver and kart change by the leading team — turned the deficit into a four-lap lead by the halfway point of the segment. Fatigued by three hours of intense racing, Jessica turned the kart over to a teammate for the final hour.

With time winding down, the team asked Jessica if she had enough left in the tank to take the checkered flag, and with five minutes to go she climbed back in the kart to close out the victory with her fastest lap of the day.

"Jessica went out and ran against some of the best road course drivers on the West Coast — several of have professional licenses and ran World Challenge Series, Grand Am Series and the Daytona Rolex 24 Hour last year,” said Powell, the ICSCC GT1 division champion in 2008. “This was not an amateur event by any standard. Jess raised, and then cleared, the bar. This young lady has a bright racing future indeed."

After Apex co-owner Armstrong gave Jessica the ceremonial checkered flag for a victory lap, she enjoyed drinking some cold milk along with teammates Scott Morton, Joe Manke, Powell, Rick Bostrom and Randy Blaylock. Jessica was presented with the trophy by the team, and she said “That is one trophy I will covet the rest of my life.”

In addition to kart racing, later this year Jessica will team with Tyler Tanner under the Tanner Dana Racing banner to race late models. A sophomore studying mechanical engineering at Arizona State University, Tanner earned two poles and finished second overall in points at South Sound Speedway in 2010.

About Tanner Dana Racing
Tanner Dana Racing was formed in late 2010 to support two up-and-coming drivers, Tyler Tanner and Jessica Dana, and to help them achieve their shared goal of racing at the highest levels of motorsports.

Jessica Dana began riding ATVs when she was 4, and racing them at 8. Two months after sitting in a kart for the first time she was recording a top-5 finish at the 2009 U.S. Indoor Kart Championships. Over a two-month period in the spring of 2010, the high school sophomore raced and defeated both four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon and extreme motorsports star Travis Pastrana in charity kart events.

Tyler Tanner began his racing career at 5 in quarter midgets, earning four national championships, numerous track records and more than 100 wins over 10 years. Tyler also raced in mini-sprints and full midgets before moving into late models in 2008. Racing at South Sound Speedway in Tenino, Wash., in 2010 he earned two pole positions and finished No. 2 overall in points in the late model division. Tyler earned early admittance to the Ira A. Fulton Mechanical Engineering Program at Arizona State University, where he is a sophomore.

SUPERMOTO RACING RETURNS TO PGP IN 2011

KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 18, 2011) There is a sense of new beginnings here in the Northwest and we’re planning on the second year of SuperMoto racing at PGP Motorsports Park to be bigger and better than the first.

With five race dates scheduled at the premier multi-purpose racing venue in the Pacific Northwest, a streamlined class structure for maximum seat time, and money-saving deals for members — the Stars of PGP Motorsports Series should be your first choice for two-wheel racing.

The 2011 edition of the SuperMoto Series features at least 8 classes — SMJR, 250/400F, Open Am, 450, 35+ Veteran, Pro with 100% pay back ($40 fee), Unlimited, Asphalt only — and we’ll offer a place for Quads if the need develops. We haven’t forgotten Pee Wee riders, either: they will run during breaks in the program.

Scheduled race dates are:
· Round 1 Sunday, April 17
· Round 2 Saturday, June 11
· Round 3 Saturday, July 16
· Round 4 Saturday, Aug. 20
· Round 5 Sunday, Aug. 21

All classes are $75 for the first entry, with a second entry $25 more and the third one FREE for members. Spectators are welcome on the hilltop free of charge. Additionally, licensed riders will enjoy reduced pricing for practice days (see more below) and we’ll provide details soon about the ever-expanding list of contingencies and other incentives now being developed.

New for this year is an exclusive practice session for Stars of SuperMoto riders from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Friday before a scheduled event. Series racedays will follow our tried-and-true format, with gates open at 7 a.m. and practice at 9 a.m., followed by the very popular computer-scored qualifying, heat races and final events for all classes. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony.

The opening round on April 17 will be the day after the Seattle AMA SuperCross event at Qwest Field and PGP is working to take advantage of this by getting some celebrity riders out to have some fun in a charity event and rental kart race during the lunch break.

The final PGP race of the year will also be a national series event finale with a large purse that is sure to get riders from all over the West Coast. This event will be produced in conjunction with Brok McAllister and SuperMoto USA, with the intent to once again get a national series up and running. There will be a lot of additional information coming out about this separately.

As an added bonus, PGP will operate a new Wednesday night Stars of Motorsports Series that will include two SuperMoto classes (Open and DRZ/Street) in addition to two kart classes (Shifter and Rotax), Rental Karts, Drifting and timed SCCA-style Lap Attacks. You can race your car, bike and a Rental Kart all on the same night! Schedule dates for the Wednesday motorsports series are:

· May 18
· June 15
· July 20
· Aug. 31

SuperMoto racing at PGP competes on the full .82-mile course configuration and will of course include the technical but forgiving dirt section. Although the event is rain-or-shine, in the event of rain, all laps will be run only on the asphalt track. A diagram of the course, series primer, raceday schedule and complete rules and regulations can be found at www.pacificgp.com.

And don’t forget that all PGP Motorsports events are now available on line live so you can have all your friends and family follow along live or later “on demand” if they are not able to attend in person.

2011 Stars of PGP Kart Series Schedule set‏

For immediate release, PGP Motorsports Park (07-11)

2011 STARS OF PGP KART SERIES SCHEDULE SET
KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 14, 2011) How do you make something pretty good even better? By keeping what works well and adding MORE VALUE.

That’s what we’ve done with the popular Stars of PGP Kart Series, maintaining the focus on providing a racer-friendly format that maximizes seat time while actually reducing fees from the previous year for our members. We also will be announcing cost incentives for frequent flyers, a contingency program and other elements designed to increase participation.

PGP is proud to be able to offer a local single-track racing program in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. The nine-race 2011 Stars of PGP Karting Series will have many improvements over last year’s first full season. The facility is constantly being upgraded: the pit area will be tripled in size, there will be a paved access road into the fully paved paddock, real restrooms and so much more.

Another new perk for 2011 will be the extension of PGP’s race weekend format to give competitors exclusive use of our state-of-the-art track for practice on Fridays. Three Saturday only events and 3 dual Saturdays and Sunday events will follow our tried-and-true schedule with practice, qualifying, heat races and a main event each day.

To keep things moving classes will be combined so the Stars of PGP Kart Series will ensure maximum seat time for all participants. Being in the seat and flying around PGP’s state-of-the-art asphalt track is exactly where Northwest kart competitors want to be — rain or shine.

Want more value? How about combining the Stars of PGP Kart Series with the visit to PGP by the I-5 Corridor Series on June 25-26 and Aug. 27-28? PGP regulars won’t have a problem taking part in the I-5 Series at Pat’s Acres Racing Complex either, because we haven’t scheduled any kart events on those dates.

Here are the dates for the 2011 Stars of PGP Kart Series (all events below run 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.):
Fri., April 22 Exclusive practice
Sat., April 23 Race 1
Sun., April 24 Race 2
Fri., May 20 Exclusive practice
Sat., May 21 Race 3
Fri., June 3 Exclusive practice
Sat., June 4 Race 4
Fri., June 24 Exclusive practice
Sat., June 25 Race 5 (note: concurrent w/I-5 Corridor Series Race 3)
Sun., June 26 Race 6 (note: concurrent w/I-5 Corridor Series Race 4)
Fri., July 29 Exclusive practice
Sat., July 30 Race 7
Fri., Aug. 26 Exclusive practice
Sat., Aug. 27 Race 8 (note: concurrent w/I-5 Corridor Series Race 5)
Sun., Aug. 28 Race 9 / Series Finale (note: concurrent w/I-5 Corridor Series Race 6)

And we have an added bonus! PGP will be operating a new Wednesday night Motorsports event that will combine two kart classes (Shifter and Rotax) with Supermoto, Drifting and timed SCCA-style Lap Attacks. A fast-paced, action-packed evening race with food vendors, beer gardens and spectators — yes, spectators — cheering on their favorites.

With six possible course configurations — including the full .82-mile, 14-turn circuit — subtle elevation changes, a 30-foot wide track and a main straight approaching 800 feet in length, PGP’s layout is designed to be challenging but fun to drive. Horsepower can be an advantage at the South end, where longer straights and hard braking corners allow for maximum passing zones, but the North end is very technically rewarding to the pilots with the best driving skills.

In addition to trophies for the top finishers in each class during monthly rounds, competitors will be eligible for prizes, giveaways and contingency awards through their series participation. Pre-registration for the Stars of PGP Kart Series is strongly recommended. To register and learn more, visit www.pacificgp.com.

A substantial amount of time and money was spent during the construction of PGP to mitigate all water issues. More than two miles of drain pipe sits under the specifically formulated asphalt that includes additional polymers and hardeners that increase the traction in the wet. This means you can expect great racing rain or shine year round.

Newcomers enjoy the challenge and fun of taking part in Stars of PGP Drift Series

Cold weather was no problem for PGP Motorsports Park on Sunday, Jan. 8, as the region's top drifters kept things smoky and hot at the premier racing venue in the Northwest during Round 3 of the Stars of PGP Drift Fall-Winter Series.

With more than 20 drivers taking to the .82-mile course - many for the first time and some from as far away as Oregon - the crowd of spectators on hand were thoroughly entertained. Many fans also got to take part in the on-track action by climbing into Birel Rental karts to compete against PGP drift veterans Rob Primozich, Nathan Feigon, Roland Gallagher and Mike Phillips.

"It's exciting to see the number of drivers grow so rapidly," said Primozich, who helps PGP coordinate the show. "A crowd of drivers from Salem (Ore.) even made the trek to see what all the PGP fuss was about. They told me that (Sunday) was 'hands down the best event they have been to.'"

Two of the first-time drivers on Sunday were Nikki San Miguel and Sapphire Johnson, who were also the first female drifters to take part in one of the events at PGP Primozich said. San Miguel, who is from Mill Creek and has been drifting for nearly two years, took advantage of the variety of motorsports available at PGP to gets familiar with the track before Sunday.

"PGP is the only track that gave me the chance to really learn my race lines - the fastest way around the track - on Wednesday (Jan. 5) when I participated in a Car Lapping day," said San Miguel. "I think I came in a little too hot from doing pretty well on Wednesday: my first corner of the day (Sunday) I went straight off the track."

San Miguel and the other PGP novices showed great improvement throughout the day, said Primozich. Finding the best way around PGP's 14-turn full-course configuration challenges drivers of all levels, but ultimately rewards them with better all-around drifting skills.

"I enjoyed this course because it gave me the opportunity to make my driving more diverse," said San Miguel. "There are not really any other tracks in Washington that give me the opportunity to improve my driving by using my (emergency) brake and having so many fast transitions. You really have to be on top of your steering work."

San Miguel said she felt more comfortable and under less pressure when back on the track following the intermission, which was good because the drifting built up to a "14-plus car tandem in which I think I improved my driving the most."

The Stars of PGP Drift Fall-Winter Series resumes with Round 4 on Feb. 12 and the finale on March 12. Nikki San Miguel is one person who's sure to be at PGP for both, as well some other events.

"Overall the event (Sunday) was great and I plan on being at all the lapping days coming up and drift events for the next few months," San Miguel said. "I was always nervous to come out and drive PGP, but now that I have I don't see myself stopping."

2011 EDITION OF I-5 CORRIDOR SERIES TO BE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE QUALIFER

KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 11, 2011) The schedule for the sophomore season of the highly successful I-5 Corridor Series has been set and PGP Motorsports Park is pleased to again join Pat’s Acres Racing Complex in Canby, Ore., to host the region’s best kart pilots for eight rounds of exciting competition.

As it was last year, the I-5 Corridor Series will be contested over four weekends, using the double race weekend format for eight rounds (two throwaways) of action at two of the premier karting facilities in the Pacific Northwest.

The dates and locations are:
  • Races 1 and 2: Pats Acres Racing Complex (PARC), May 28-29
  • Races 3 and 4: PGP Motorsports Park (PGP), June 25-26
  • Races 5 and 6: PGP Motorsports Park (PGP), Aug. 27-28
  • Races 7 and 8: Pats Acres Racing Complex (PARC), Sept. 10-11

Series organizers have retained their dedication to keeping travel expenses down and maximizing track time for competitors, but in one big change this season the I-5 series will be an official Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) Series, qualifying participants for the 2011 U.S. Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals to be held July 19-23 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooelle, Utah.

The 2011 I-5 series will adhere to the Rotax Max Challenge Series structure from top to bottom, from utilizing accredited officials to running specified RMC-length heats and mains. “By sticking to the program, we will be preparing our racers for the national-level events," said PARC owner Chris Egger. "We have big expectations for this year’s program."

In another change, this season the I-5 Corridor Series will focus almost exclusively on the two segments of the karting industry that have experienced growth in a period of declining participation: Rotax and the SKUSA-based Stock Honda Shifter program.

"It is very clear which segments of karting are growing and that is why we are concentrating our efforts toward these programs," said PGP owner Paul Zalud. “We’ve planned the 2011 I-5 Corridor Series around the schedules of the SKUSA ProTour and the Rotax U.S. Grand Nationals and the Rotax Pan American Series, allowing Pacific Northwest racers to support both our regional series and the national-level programs.”

The continued growth and resurgence of the Stock Honda Shifter program was clearly evident last November in Las Vegas when the biggest SKUSA SuperNationals in history attracted nearly 500 drivers from all over the world. The Rotax program has also stood the test of time and will enjoy a surge of growth this upcoming season with a restructured and refocused program all over North America.

Tough decisions had to be made with scheduling for the season, said Egger and Zalud, but there are only so many weekends in a year. With a broadening user base of motorsports customers using PARC and PGP, both facilities had very limited options to schedule the I-5 series.

Additional information about the I-5 Corridor Series will be provided soon, including significant announcements regarding incentive programs for the upcoming season and year-end awards for 2010. To learn more about PGP or PARC, visit www.pacificgp.com or www.patsacres.com.

Mitchum Motorsports Demonstration Pit Stop for GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge

More Track Records Fall During Round 3 of Stars of PGP Kart action

For the Stars of PGP Kart Fall-Winter Series the New Year began the same way the old year ended: With blazing speed and tumbling track records.

By the time Round 3 of the series wrapped up on Jan. 2, five new speed benchmarks were set, with Jerry Peterson (Rotax Master), Jessica Dana (TaG Senior), Jersain Orozco (Yamaha), Jeremy Bolstad (F200) and Nick Larson (World Formula) writing their names into the PGP Motorsports Park record book.

The first round of kart racing in 2011 at PGP can be viewed on-demand from eventbuilder.com by following the link on www.PacificGP.com. The Stars of PGP Kart Fall & Winter Series returns to action with Round 4 on Feb. 6 and the finale on March 6.

SHIFTERS

Sean Naslund and Parker McKean put on the show of the day in the Stock Moto Light Pre-Final, battling back and forth as the laps wound down to a Steve Perdue win. Perdue also won the final event, nursing his kart to victory after shattering a brake rotor. McKean, whose Rotax Junior package was packed up for an upcoming Gatorz event, finished second in both the Pre-Final and Final. In his first race back at PGP after a late-September injury, Naslund returned to the podium with thirds in both the Final and Pre-Final. In the Stock Moto Heavy division, Bruce McKean was first.

In the World Formula class, Nick Larson held off a hard-charging Randy Taylor for the victory. Taylor, who had the fastest lap in the final event in his first race in the category, was second with Kevin Larson rounding out the top three.

Orozco made the trip to PGP from Ephrata, Wash., to set the Yamaha standard and Bolstad, who likely will switch to the Rotax Senior class for Round 4, lowered his own fast time mark in F200. Racing for the first time in a competitive kart, Craig Taylor got faster and faster throughout the day in the Clone category.

RENTAL KART (BIREL SPEC)

The large Rental Kart (Birel Spec) class was once again highlighted by a battle between Maurice Shawver and Cameron Grimes-Hess, with the victory in this round going to Shawver. Grimes-Hess, the winner in Round 2, finished second and Jerrett Cangie, who normally races in the Stock Moto Light class, was third.

ROTAX/TAG

In the Rotax Senior class, Russell Francis led flag-to-flag for the victory while Joey McGuire, impressive in his return to Rotax racing at PGP, finished second and Travis Henson was a fresh face on the podium in third. Peterson set the new track record in winning the Rotax Master class with Jerry Pitts second while Caleb Daniells was first in Rotax Micro. Joseph Schwager won the Rotax Junior class, with Molly Helmuth runner-up and Tessa Daniells rounding out the top three.

Dana made her debut in the TaG Senior class memorable with the new track mark and a win the final event, while Tyler Tanner made his PGP debut by finishing second. Derek Wang recovered from early-race contact to earn a podium finish with the fastest lap of the finale.

Drifting returns this Saturday at PGP Motorsports Park

Rain or shine, hot or cold, when the best drifters in the Pacific Northwest get down to business on the region's top motorsports venue: FIREWORKS!

Between the tire smoke, the screaming engines as the drivers go through the gears, the "oohs" and "aahs" of the crowd, and the party going on in the paddock - you'd think it was the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve all rolled into one.

The Stars of PGP Drift Series returns to PGP this Saturday with Round 3 of the Fall & Winter Drift Series. The first drift event of the year is likely also the earliest to ever be held in the Pacific Northwest - which is OK with us because we like being the first to do cool things.

Whatever the weather does, the drifting will go on - we're not sure it's possible but drivers tell us drifting at PGP is even MORE FUN in the rain - using both directions of PGP's .82-mile, 14-turn state-of-the-art asphalt track. The driver lineup includes some of the best in the Northwest as well as a few complete novices so you won't want to miss a run.

Speaking of cool, how about getting some karting action between rounds of drifting? Spectators and pit crew will have their chance to drift the rental karts and have their thrills during intermissions. Cost for Winter Drift spectator entry is $10 with 5 and under free. Gates open at 11 a.m. with drifting from noon to dusk.

There will be a live broadcast with commentary of Saturday's event provided by eventbuilder.com and accessible through a link on the PGP website at www.PacificGP.com. The event will also be available for "on demand" viewing after Saturday by following the same link.

The Fall-Winter Drift Series returns to PGP for Round 4 on Feb. 12 and the finale on March 12, so mark your calendars.

LAP ATTACK RETURNS TO PGP WITH ROUND 4 THIS SUNDAY

KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 6, 2011) Rarely in these day of sports over-hype do you get an event with a name that fits perfectly, a name like LAP ATTACK. It almost begs to have an exclamation point on the end, doesn’t it? LAP ATTACK! ... LAP ATTACK!

Lap Attack returns to PGP Motorsports Park with Round 4 of the Fall-Winter Series this Sunday. No previous experience or expensive race cars are needed, either. Just bring your daily driver, or any other street-legal car, and see just how quick you can turn a lap around PGP.

Drivers in four categories, Open, Race Tire, Street Tire and Novice (see below for explanation of classes) will compete to turn the quickest times around PGP’s 14-turn .82-mile asphalt track. Drivers must possess a valid driver’s license.

Competitive sessions during each round will be four laps each, with drivers turning one out-lap to warm their tires before three hot laps. The best lap time for each session will be combined with the lowest overall total in each class winning that round. The top three drivers in each class will be awarded trophies at the end of each round.

Practice starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $60 for members, $80 for non-members, $25 transponder fee and $10 per pit pass. No passengers allowed. Pre-registration for PGP’s Lap Attack Fall-Winter Series is strongly recommended. To register for Lap Attack, and for more information, visit www.pacificgp.com.

The Lap Attack Fall-Winter Series will resume with Round 5 on Feb. 13 and the finale on March 13.

There will be a live broadcast with commentary of Sunday’s event provided by eventbuilder.com and accessible through a link on the PGP website at www.PacificGP.com. The event will also be available for “on demand” viewing after Sunday by following the same link.

Lap Attack — like all racing at PGP — is rain or shine. A substantial amount of time and money was spent during the construction of PGP to mitigate all water issues. More than two miles of drain pipe sits under the specifically formulated asphalt that includes additional polymers and hardeners that increase the traction in the wet. This means you can expect great racing rain or shine year round.

TDR TEAMMATES START 2011 WITH 1-2 FINISH IN FIRST RACE TOGETHER

KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 6, 2011) If this past weekend is any indication, 2011 will be an exciting and successful year for Tanner Dana Racing.

On Sunday, Jan. 2, TDR teammates Jessica Dana and Tyler Tanner finished 1-2 in the TaG Senior class during Round 3 of the Stars of PGP Kart Fall and Winter Series at PGP Motorsports Park. The event was the first time the duo had competed together, as well as being Dana’s first TaG race and Tanner’s second kart race.

"I am excited to be a part of the TDR growth. It became quite evident this weekend that there is phenomenal synergy between the Tanner and Dana families and that our styles are a perfect complement to each other,” said Kelly Tanner, father of Tyler Tanner and crew chief for the new team. “I do not make predictions and keep my expectations real, but I see Jessica Dana and Tyler Tanner becoming great representatives of Northwest racing."

After earning the pole in qualifying and winning the heat race while setting a new track lap record, Dana completed the sweep by leading flag-to-flag en route to winning the finale. Cold tires and shade on the track made the going slippery in the combined TaG/Rotax finale, but Dana and Rotax Senior winner Russ Francis set the pace and drove away from the field.

"Jessica's ability to adapt to a brand-new machine was amazing. Every session throughout the weekend she improved her overall speed,” said Mike Rolison of the Rolison Performance Group (RPG). Rolison, who won multiple karting championships himself and helped many others win titles as a driving instructor, was on hand to help Dana debut a new Kosmic Kart and make her first outing in the TaG category. “In the final she had her best run, getting every extra tenth of a second out of the Kosmic Racing Kart. I've worked with a number of drivers over the years and Jessica's desire to learn and succeed ranks up there with some of my strongest students."

Things didn’t go as easily for Tanner, however. It took all of the 19-year-old’s racing skill to gain the runner-up finish after sustaining a bent axle during contact with another driver who spun out during the first of four attempts at starting the race. Despite beginning in the rear of the field and having to fight an ill-handling kart around PGP’s .82-mile track, Tanner was able to push forward into third place and then the runner-up position with just a few laps to go.

"This past weekend was a great opportunity to meet other racers and improve my skills in karts with the help of Jessica, Troy Dana and our team,” said Tanner. “Matt Kindrick was a big help and excellent mechanic and is fun to race with. Kart racing is fun and very demanding as well.”

Under the TDR banner, Tanner and Dana, 16, will race in the Super Stock division during the upcoming season at South Sound Speedway in Tenino, Wash., as well as in select kart events. A sophomore studying mechanical engineering at Arizona State University, Tanner earned two poles and finished second overall in points at South Sound in 2010.

Although he has extensive experience racing sprints, midgets and late models, Sunday’s event at PGP marked just the second time Tanner raced a kart and it was his first ride in Dana’s Arrow Kart. Supported by Kindrick, Troy Dana and his father Kelly Tanner, Tyler Tanner quickly found his pace in the Arrow Kart during the TaG Senior practice session, going second quickest. He qualified fourth and finished fifth in the heat race after a tight race-long battle.

"Tyler's communication with myself and the other mechanics under the tent was fantastic,” said Rolison. “For having such little time in a kart he was carrying himself as a seasoned veteran at PGP. Talking with Tyler before the final on Sunday we decided to make a front end change which enabled hiim to come through the pack and record a strong finish."
