30 OF THE REGION’S BEST DRIFTERS COMPETING ON SATURDAY AT PGP

KENT, Wash. — (May 25, 2011) Memorial Day weekend means more than just cookouts, spending time with family and looking forward to a short workweek. It also the time for RACING.

Before you settle in to enjoy the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 or World 600, head out to PGP Motorsports Park to watch the fastest growing form of motorsports in the world today: Drifting.

Saturday’s Stars of PGP Drifting Series event will feature 30 of the region’s best drifters smoking tires and sliding around a .82-mile 14-turn state-of-the art track that has been described as “intensely challenging” and “crazy fun.” All racing at PGP is rain or shine, and we’ve been told that drifting in the wet is even more fun than in the dry.

The day wraps up with a Grand Finale not seen anywhere else when all cars with any rubber left on their tires take the track at the same time, making a spectacle you don’t want to miss!

There will be catered food and a DJ for music. Gates open at 4 p.m. with drifting from 5 p.m.-dusk. Spectator fee is $15 with 5 and under free. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on the hillside where the view encompasses the entire track. By the way, the hillside is the place to be for the Grand Finale, too!

Pits will be open for drivers at 9 a.m. with check-in required before 3 p.m. for tech inspection. There will be a mandatory drivers meeting at 4:30 p.m.

Why not make it an all-day event and take part in PGP’s Rental Kart League Racing event at 9 a.m. on Saturday? RKLR events are open to those 15 and older with no prior racing experience or competition license required. You show up ready to experience the thrill of racing and PGP provides the rest — the kart, fuel, tires, helmet and a state-of-the-art track.

There will be both Novice and Expert classes and you can register Saturday from 8-8:30 a.m. or in advance by emailing to Juli@PacificGP.com the form found on our website under the “Racing@PGP>Rental Kart League>Forms/Info/Rules” tab. There is a mandatory drivers meeting at 8:45 a.m. followed by qualifying, a heat race and final. New drivers are always welcome.

Don’t forget all PGP Motorsports events can be viewed live online so you can have all your friends and family follow along live or later “on demand” if they are not able to attend in person. Just click on the link on our website for access to online viewing.
