Thompson Rolling into RMR After Dominating RMCS Action at Meridian

JEROME, IDAHO (July 15, 2010) Brett Thompson of Jerome, Idaho made a statement in his bid for the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series championship after winning his first career event three weeks ago at Meridian Speedway and closed to within 24-points of the championship lead. This weekend, Thompson heads to the ultra-fast oval of Rocky Mountain Raceways outside Salt Lake City, Utah in round six of the ten race Late Model Series.

Thompson has four top three finishes this season with his only blemish coming at RMR back in May where he finished 15th. After claiming his first career series victory he is focused on the backing it up while being mindful of the tight point's battle.

"We have had a really good year and a lot of fun," Thompson said. "This series is quite a challenge with the tire rule (two new tires per race) so sometimes you give up a little in order to gain something down the road. We had 200-lap tires at Meridian in order to save our new tires for RMR and the next event at Stateline. We feel really good about our car and think we will have a good run Saturday night."

This trip to RMR will be entirely different then the last two visits. "It is going to be hot this weekend and that changes just about everything," Thompson said. "New tires will help when the track gets slick in the July sun, but we are not the only ones playing this strategy. As it always seems to work out, the teams that stay out of trouble will an advantage."

While racing for a championship can alter how a driver approaches a race, playing it too conservative can cost you as well. "Qualifying is the key element in this series," Thompson said. "If you do not qualify among the top five then you can get bit pretty hard in the points. RMR has plenty of room to race and there is enough time to work your way to the front and that is where the points can really stack up." (The RMCS inverts the top 20 cars and awards passing points for positions gained from the driver's original starting position).

Thompson's win at Meridian Speedway allowed him to close to within 24-points of leader John Newhouse. "I never thought my first win in the series would come at Meridian but I was thrilled," Thompson offered. "I really want to win at RMR and our whole team has prepared our car to do just that. Hopefully we can make it two in a row."
