Jonathon Gomez Set for Idaho 200 Weekend

Gomez Takes Break From Title Runs to Race Three Races in Three Days
TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (July 28, 2010) Jonathon Gomez of Twin Falls, Idaho will take a break from his NASCAR K&N Pro Series and SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour championship title chases and head to Northern Idaho for the annual NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 200 weekend at Stateline Stadium Speedway in Post Falls, Idaho. Gomez will compete in three different Late Model race series' logging over 400 laps of competition. Three races; two cars, one goal. Winning!

His weekend odyssey begins on Friday evening in the INSSA Duel for the 200 100-lap contest. The Inland Northwest Super Stock Association competes primarily at the 1/4-mile paved oval at Stateline and the event will be their third of the season. On the line in the race is not only the winner's trophy, but the top six finishers will be locked into the starting field for Sunday's Idaho 200. Gomez finished third in the INSSA Duel in 2009.

On Saturday night, Gomez will rejoin old friends and compete in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series 100-lap Duel for the 200 presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Gomez finished 5th in the 2009 RMCS points with five top five finishes and two Sharp Powder Coating Fast Time Awards including setting a track record at Stateline last season with a quick lap of 13.466 seconds. Gomez is looking for redemption after a 15th place finish last season in the RMCS Duel.

The top six points finishers for the RMCS event will earn starting positions for the Idaho 200. The RMCS awards points for qualifying, heat race finishes, feature event finish position, and passing points based on positions gained in the race from the original starting position.

Then on Sunday, Gomez will turn his attention to the NAPA Auto Parts Idaho "200". Last season Gomez finished 5th in the event and after an impressive year so far in the NASCAR West and the SRL where has posted two wins, six top five and eight top ten finishes, he is looking to carry that momentum into this weekend's racing action.

"I am really looking forward to the racing this weekend," Gomez said. "The Spokane area is where I grew up so I will have a lot of friends and family there. I enjoy the track at Stateline and the different competition is going to be a lot of fun. Plus you can't beat three nights of racing."

Gomez sits in the fourth position in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West standings, just 19-points out of third place and 137-points behind the series leader. After seven races he has scored two top five and four top ten performances with his best finish this season of second place at Iowa Speedway back in May. In the SRL Southwest Tour, Gomez is second in the standings just seven points out of the lead on the strength of two dominating wins this season.

Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has started 15 NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring eight top ten finishes and is in his first full-time season in the NKNPS. Gomez will contend for championships in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series as well as the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour this season.

Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series from Portland will be televised on SPEED Channel Thursday, July 29 at 3PM PT. The next event on the SRL schedule is September 4 at Toyota Speedway.
