MOLLY HELMUTH CLOSES BOOK ON 2010; LOOKS AHEAD TO 2011 RACING SEASON WITH NEW PIT CREW

SEATTLE (Jan. 28, 2011) — The final piece of business from the 2010 racing season was wrapped up last Saturday night, the same night Molly Helmuth finalized some important details for the upcoming season.

The 15-year-old from Seattle was recognized with a beautiful trophy as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rookie of the Year award in the Mini-Stock Division at the Evergreen Speedway Awards Banquet, held at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, Wash.

Molly also received a trophy for finishing fifth in the season standings, and $60 as the winner of a raffle drawing from Mini Stock Division sponsor Foster Press of Lake Stevens, Wash.

“The cash was a nice surprise, and the whole event was very nice and well put together,” said Molly. “Traci Hobbs told me that I was the inspiration for putting on the event after talking with Doug Hobbs, one of the new promoters of Evergreen Speedway, at a karting event. I said ‘All I want is my Rookie of the Year trophy’ and they made that happen."

Earlier Saturday night, Molly crossed an important item off her racing to-do list: finding an experienced pit crew to help her compete in the Mini-Stock Division at Evergreen and in select events with the Northwest Pro4 Truck Series. After meeting with Molly and her parents, Mike and Jana Helmuth, Roger Habich and Aaron Hoskin agreed to be the Roosevelt High School student’s pit crew for 2011. Habich will serve as driver coach and crew chief, with Hoskin as lead mechanic.

A veteran late-model and sports-car racer, Habich has been involved on the track or in the infield at Evergreen Speedway since 1986. In 2009 he served as crew chief for Natalie Sather, helping the NASCAR Drive for Diversity selectee earn Rookie of the Year honors in her first season racing a stock car.

Hoskin has been involved in late-model racing at Evergreen Speedway since 2006. After working as a tire and chassis specialist for Total Velocity Motorsports, supporting drivers Habich and Jeff Knight, Hoskin joined Habich working on Sather’s crew in 2009.

“Having Roger and Aaron agree to be my pit crew relieved a lot of stress for myself and my family,” said Molly. “Getting two trophies and a pit crew on Saturday night, I am one happy girl and looking forward to the 2011 season. It should be a good one.”

Molly’s Mini-Stock ride for this season at Evergreen Speedway, a rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang, has been placed in the capable hands of Habich and Hoskin, with all work expected to be completed in time for on-track practice in March. A four-cylinder race truck was also recently purchased for her to use in a handful of Northwest Pro4 Truck Series races this season.
