Greg Pursley Posts Top Ten at Roseburg

Cut Tire Dashes Hopes but Rebounds for Sixth Place Finish in Round Four of NKNPS

PARKER, AZ (June 9, 2010) Greg Pursley, driver of the GPM Performance Parts Ford in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series for Gene Price Motorsports, survived a long day and remained in the championship hunt after a sixth place finish this past weekend at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR.

Pursley qualified sixth for the 150-lap contest at the 3/8-mile paved oval where he would start in the outside line. The preferred line is on the bottom as passing opportunities are at a premium at DCS. Almost as quickly as the green flag dropped, Pursley's Ford had difficulty turning making the initial laps a chore just to keep his position.

Over the first 100 laps there were four caution periods which bunched the field back together for the customary double file restarts. Pursley managed to secure an inside starting position on several occasions but was mired in the 7th position much of the time but ran as high as third at one point.

Two more caution periods during the next 25-laps allowed the team to assess the issues and GPM team opted to pit on lap 127 under caution. The team found a right front tire that had a slow leak, likely from the start of the race. The team changed the tired and rejoined the field at the tail end of the field on the lead lap.

The race restarted on lap 135 leaving only 15 laps for Pursley to move from the rear. He first had to negotiate the down cars and then set his sights on the top ten. By lap 140, he had moved into the 9th position and over the closing laps was able to get as high as sixth place before the checkered flag flew.

"We'll take it," Pursley said. "This is definitely not the kind of finish we wanted but we are lucky to finish sixth just the same. I think the tire started to go down almost from the beginning of the race so the car just would not turn. We have had some bad luck the last couple of events and I hope it is all behind us going forward."

The finish kept Pursley in the points race where he currently sits third in the standings 103 points out of the top spot. Through four races this season, Pursley has one top five and two more top ten finishes. The next event for Pursley and the GPM team is Saturday, June 19 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. Infineon Raceway is one of the finest and most picturesque road course facilities in America.

Greg Pursley is in his third full season of competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and currently sits third in the championship standings after four races. Pursley has 33 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), with ten top five and 18 top ten performances along with two Coors Light Pole Awards. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.
