Uribe, Pugh win multiple classes at SuperMoto USA Northwest Nationals

The warmest day of the year saw some of the hottest on-track action ever seen at PGP Motorsports Park during the finale of the Hammer Nutrition SuperMoto USA Northwest Nationals.

Track records tumbled and new class marks established during the biggest SuperMoto event the Pacific Northwest has seen in a long time — and perhaps ever — as a large field of riders attacked PGP’s exciting SuperMoto course looking to score some of the $5,000 purse.

"Our weekend of racing at PGP was a great experience,” said Brok McAllister, president of SuperMoto USA. “The track was one of the best ever, offering an almost perfect combination of asphalt and challenging dirt elements. We were treated to ideal weather and everything ran exceptionally smooth and on time. We would certainly do it again."

Fred Guerin won the SuperMoto USA 250 Pro class and Ryan Kearns took the top trophy in SuperMoto USA Unlimited Pro. Twelve-year-old Jayson Uribe from California left PGP with three track records and victories in the Open Amateur, 250 and SuperMoto Junior (SMJR) classes. In all 86 entrants took part in the event, including 30 from out-of-state, most from the Golden State.

The local SuperMoto community was well represented as well with PGP regular Ryan Pugh scoring wins in the 450 and Unlimited classes on Saturday as temperatures reached the mid-80s for the first time this year. Pugh also scored a fourth-place finish in the SuperMoto USA Unlimited Pro category.

PGP owner Paul Zalud (35+ Veteran) and Chris Smith (Mini) also celebrated victories with stunning gold cup trophies and champagne.

The action kicked off Friday with qualifying and Heat 1, followed by a delicious free BBQ and beer for competitors, and some phenomenal music until dark provided by Fifth Wall.

PGP’s records for Counter-Clockwise, Full Track (With Dirt) began to fall on Day 1, with Uribe setting a new mark of 1 minute, 33.825 seconds in the 250/400 class, Fred Guerin establishing the benchmark of 1:27.840 in the SuperMotoUSA Pro 250 class and PGP regular Ryan Pugh adding new marks in both 450 (1:26.902) and Unlimited (1:26.902).

On Saturday, Uribe added new records in the Open Amateur (1:32.021) and Mini/BBR/Junior (1:35.085) classes. Ryan Kearns also established the mark of 1:25.457 for the SuperMotoUSA Unlimited class.

At the end of the event there was a great vibe among everyone on hand, for the race, the venue and the future of SuperMoto in the Northwest. Folks that had the chance to ride at PGP for the first time had very good things to say about the event and venue, and everyone said they looking forward to returning.
