BOISE, ID (September 14, 2012)- With the
CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series championship coming down to the final race, the ninth season for the popular Late Model touring series will wrap up the 2012 campaign at
Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho on Saturday night. Two old rivals who cut their racing teeth on one-third mile paved oval will face off once again in the
Thompson Motorsports "125".
For
Bruce Quale of Twin Falls, his season has been nothing short of spectacular. He has been a series regular in the RMCS for the past five seasons but this year he became a title contender. Through nine races this season, Quale has finished no worse than seventh with eight of his finishes coming in the top four. He is the only driver to have completed every lap of competition and has one victory this season.
His consistency gives him a 70-point advantage heading into the final night of competition. "This series is tough to race and even harder to win," Quale offered. "It really took me and the team some time to figure out how to put a complete race together. This year it has worked out pretty good."
The
RMCS awards points for qualifying, heat race finish position, main event finish position and passing points for positions gained in the feature race. "We have always run really good and finished well but our qualifying package just was not where it needed to be," Quale stated. "Mike Naake has helped us a bunch and it has really made the difference this season. It has been a great year and if we just do what we have done all season we just might be able to win this championship."
Chasing Quale for the title is 2010 series champion
Steve Jones of Meridian. Jones has proven to be among the fastest competitors race in and race out for the past several years. Jones has out qualified Quale at nearly every race this season to take those points but has not had the top five consistency that Quale has had. Jones has one victory this season along with five top 5 and nine top 10 finishes.
"Anything is possible but Bruce is going to have to have some back luck at Twin and we will need to be at the top of our game," Jones said. "It is going to be fun I can tell you that."
A title contender for most of the season,
John Nesmith also from Meridian is back full-time in the series for the first time since 2005. Nesmith has one win this year along with six top 5 and eight top ten performances. "It has been a lot of fun this year but a couple of part failures took us out of the running so all we are focused on is winning."
A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning Rookie-of-the-Year leader Tyler Bailey is competing in his first full season and has led the rookie points since the first race. He also holds down the fourth position in the standings on the strength of two top 5 and eight top ten finishes. He nearly won an event back in August at RMR if not for a late race caution.

Thompson Motorsports sponsored event is
Rick Fowble. Fowble has been a strong competitor all season in his second full campaign on the tour. He has two top 5 and seven top ten performance.
A full slate of racing action is on tap Saturday night at Magic Valley Speedway including the Super Stocks where 15-year Hannah Newhouse seeks to close the gap in the standings for the track title.
Newhouse will also pilot her father's #26 RMCS machine becoming the youngest female competitor in series history.

Century Boatland has been the Magic Valley headquarters for new and used recreational, pleasure, and fishing boats.
The RMCS utilizes a racing format not found in ANY other regional touring series around the country. The RMCS inverts up to the top 20 from qualifying putting the fast qualifiers at the back to start each race. This format ensures race fans see what they paid for and that is passing. Each driver is awarded three points per position gained in the event. Points are also awarded for qualifying and heat race finishes. Through the history of the series, the winning driver has averaged a 12th place starting position. To ensure competition, the RMCS pays it purse based on total point accumulation for the event and provides several special performance awards at each race.
