Thompson Set for RMR Clash

Brett Thompson off to Solid Start in RMCS Championship Campaign; Eyes RMR Prize

JEROME, IDAHO (May 5, 2010) Brett Thompson of Jerome, Idaho has waited a long time to compete at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. His wait will end this weekend when RMCS rolls in to RMR for round two of the ten-race championship series Saturday night May 8.

Thompson is coming off a strong third place performance in the opening round at Magic Valley Speedway two weeks ago and looks to carry his momentum into RMR. "A top three at Magic Valley was what our plan was," Thompson offered. "But we are focused on winning at RMR. The track suits my style of driving and I know we have a really good car for the event."

Over the winter Thompson promoted long-time Thompson Motorsports employee Will Harris to crew chief of his RMCS effort. "Will has been with us for a long time and I could not be more proud of him," Thompson said. "In the last event, Will showed his talent by guiding the crew and getting the car back together after a heat race incident. "My hats off to the entire team not only on their effort with our RMCS program but for also building and maintaining all of the cars for our clients."

This week, their collective attention turns to the ultra-fast and wide 3/8-mile paved oval of Rocky Mountain Raceways. A track that is you are off by a little bit you are off by a mile. "RMR is a fast track," Thompson said. "There are a lot of guys that are really good there and we need to qualify in the top three and race our way to the front. If we can do that then we have a shot at the win."

Thompson is currently fourth in the RMCS championship standings after a third place performance in round one. The RMCS awards points for qualifying, heat race finishing position, main event finishing position, and passing points in the main event based on original starting position. "In this series you must qualify fast in order to stay in the points," Thompson stated. "The format of the series makes it great for the fans and a lot of fun for the drivers. I know it will be a great race this weekend."
