Jonathon Gomez Ready for Vegas Jackpot

Farming, Racing, and Business Keeps Jonathon Gomez in the Fast Lane

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (May 5, 2010) Farming has never been easy, but taking the easy road is not the road Jonathon Gomez chooses. The 26-year farmer from Twin Falls, Idaho is only in his fourth year of racing and is making a name for himself by racing whenever and where ever he can. This weekend, Gomez will travel to Las Vegas, NV for the third race of the season for the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series. In his last appearance at the 3/8-mile Bullring, Gomez finished an impressive second in his first career start. He eyes the winning jackpot this time around.

The Blackjack "121" presented by GOLiveStream.TV is the event he hopes will mark his first career series victory. "We have a really good car for the event this weekend," Gomez said. "We found some issues with the front end geometry after Orange Show and Craig Raudman (crew chief) has a lot of experience with these cars so I know we will be good."

The Bob Strandwold owned team will have a chance to test in an open practice session on Friday in preparation for the the Saturday event. "Testing on Friday will help a bunch," Gomez offered. "Even though we ran well last season at the Bullring, this is a different car and I still need as much seat time as I can get. I know we can be fast and with the experience from last season, I hope we can challenge for the win."

Gomez currently sits 16th in the standings after two events. A strong run this weekend will get him back into the championship hunt. "The accident at Orange Show was a real disappointment, but we are really confident heading into Vegas," Gomez offered. "We race to win and winning the points championship is certainly our focus."

Gomez is second generation farmer in Idaho and with farming now in full-swing, life becomes all about balance. "We have been working the fields for several weeks and once the weather warms up we will be working seven days a week 16 hours a day," Gomez said. "We have a lot of great employees who are absolutely dedicated to our success. Farming is real tough right now but it is what we know. We race but the business comes first."

Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has started ten NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring five top ten finishes and currently sits tenth in the championship standings. Gomez will contend for championships in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour this season.

Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series event for Gomez will be at Iowa Speedway May 23 where he will debut a brand new KHI Inc. Chevrolet. The next event on the SRL schedule is June 12 at Stockton (CA) Speedway. Gomez will also be in action Monday, May 31 in the annual Memorial Day CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series event at Rocky Mountain Raceways in SLC, Utah.
