Luttmer Takes ASA Pro Truck Series Win at Magic Valley Speedway‏

TWIN FALLS, ID (Sunday, April 29, 2012) - Defending event winner Scott Luttmer proves he has not forgotten what it takes to win. After taking the checkered flag in the season opener in 2011 the winners circle, Luttmer had failed to find the winners circle again. After a sixth place Qualifying effort Luttmer started in the fourth starting position. By lap four Luttmer grabbed the lead away from Doug Dugger and never looked back.

It looked like Fast Qualifier and former Champion Jeff Pohlman would be the man to beat moving up to third place by lap seven. By lap thirteen Pohlman and defending Champion Jerry Rice had been battling hard. Contact between the two had been going on for several laps when the two got together and Dugger saw an opportunity to gain a position or two. As Dugger made the move he and Pohlman got together sending both trucks to the pits while bringing out the only caution in the forty lap main event. Pohlman was able to return remaining on the lead lap but suspension damage kept him from being the threat for the win in the remaining laps.

“We had a really good truck tonight it’s too bad it turned out the way it did. I hoped to put it in the winners circle for Johnny,” Pohlman was driving a truck for Johnny Newhouse, the truck is for sale and Newhouse felt Pohlman was a good choice to show the trucks ability. “I knew it was a good truck and Jeff was a good driver but when Hannah (Newhouse) had fast time and Jeff knocked her off the pole I felt really good about having both trucks one and two but had hoped Hannah would have had the fast time.”

Newhouse started at the rear next to Pohlman and the fifteen year old made a great run moving as high as second before the handling went away dropping her back to a fourth place finish. This is Newhouse’s first start in a truck in twenty twelve but her third at Magic Valley Speedway this season. In her Thompson Motorsports Super Stock Newhouse has already claimed a win and a third. This event givers her three top fives in as many events.
Defending Champion Jerry Rice finished second but not without a lot of pressure from Drew Reitsma. “If we just would have had another five or ten laps I think I could have gotten him” said Reitsma after the race.

Johnny Pierre rounded out the top five. “ I went low to avoid the Dugger Pohlman deal and we must have bent something in the suspension, we were really good just buying time and after dropping off the track it just didn’t handle the same”. Pierre was determined the winner of the “Cool Move of the Race” for is evasive actions missing the wreck in front of him. Pierre was presented with a $50 gift certificate to Ultra Cool Brake Fans.
