Thompson Motorsports has Challenging Day at RMR

Brett Thompson Drops to 4th in Standings but Focused on Future

JEROME, IDAHO (June 2, 2010) Brett Thompson of Jerome, Idaho was a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time Monday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways for round three of the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. The result was a 15th place finish which dropped him to fourth in the point standings.

Thompson qualified his RTTI Dodge in the fourth position for the 100-lap Memorial Day classic at the 3/8-mile paved oval of RMR. Thompson was coming off two straight third place performances and had hoped that Monday night would be his first series win.

Thompson would start 14th after to customary series invert places the fast qualifiers to the rear of the filed. Over the first dozen laps Thompson worked his way into the top ten and was just logging laps when the #92 of Bruce Quale lost traction in turn three looping his mount in front of the field. Thompson dove low but Quale's car drifted right into the path of Thompson's Dodge. The resulting contact sent Thompson to the pit area for repairs which took many laps to complete.

Thompson rejoined the field laps down and drove to a 15th place finish. "I was a victim of circumstance," Thomspon said. "Wrong place at the wrong time. What else can you say. I am really disappointed about the result as we had a very good car. This really hurts us in the points and in the shop as we have a lot of work to do."

The bigger disappointed came in the point standings as prior to the event Thompson was only 29-points out of first. Now he sits fourth and 133-points in the rears. "A really tough night for us in the points," Thompson stated. "We can make it up but we have a lot of work to do."

Thompson's team car driven by Kenny Vanderham faired no better after being collected in a lap 36 incident after oil was dropped on the track. Vanderham was ok but his car was heavily damage as the resulting contact send him hard into the turn two wall.

On the brighter side, TMS drivers Kent Jensen and Drew Reitsma scored top ten finishes the the Intermountain Pro Truck Series races earlier in the evening. Reitsma qualified 3rd and scored a fourth place finish while Jensen qualified 8th and finished 10th in the 30-lap preliminary event.
