Jonathon Gomez Set for NASCAR K&N Pro Series Success at Infineon Raceway
Three Consecutive Top Ten Performances has Gomez in Points Battle
TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (June 16, 2010) Jonathon Gomez of Twin Falls, Idaho will make his first NASCAR K&N Pro Series start on a road course this weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. But firsts are nothing new for the 27-year old competitor as each race this season has brought something new to the team. The Thunder Valley Casino Resort "200" will be a critical test for the first year team but a test they are all excited about.
In preparation for the the event at Infineon Raceway, Gomez went back to school. Road racing school that is and he passed with flying colors. Last month he competed in the Mustang Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT and turned a lot of heads finishing second in race one of the weekend and then blistered the field to score the victory on day two in race two.
"The experience at Miller in the Mustang Challenge cars was awesome," Gomez said. "While the Mustang Challenge car is not similar at all to my West car, I did learn a lot about braking and transition points on the track. I spent a lot of time just learning how to be smooth and I know I can use that experience to help me at Infineon."
Gomez also participated in the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School. "Infineon is so different from Miller or Portland," Gomez stated. "The elevation changes and the blind corners are real challenging. I have practiced but now it is time to race and I am looking forward to this weekend."
Gomez currently sits fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West standings after four races with three top ten performances in the first four races this season. His best finish this season is a second place performance among the drivers in the NKNPS-West at Iowa Speedway back in May
Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has started twelve NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring seven top ten finishes and is in his first full-time season in the NKNPS. Gomez will contend for championships in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series as well as the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour this season where he won his first event this past weekend at Stockton (CA) Speedway.
Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series from Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA June 19 will be televised on SPEED Channel Thursday, June 24 at 3PM PT. The next event on the SRL schedule is June 26 at Madera (CA) Speedway. For more information on Jonathon Gomez, please log onto his website at www.jonathongomez.com.
