MALSAM READY FOR 2ND NASCAR NATIONWIDE START AFTER STRONG DEBUT

SPARTA, Ky. (June 11, 2010) — The mix of new and old, known and unknown, continues this week for Pacific Northwest native Tayler Malsam as he prepares to make his second career start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Malsam will also be making his second start for Braun Racing, once again in the No. 10 Toyota Camry that he drove to a solid 11th-place finish last weekend at Nashville.

The 21-year-old has raced before at Kentucky Speedway — site of this Saturday’s Meijer 300, race 14 of 35 this season in NASCAR’s second tier — but never in a Nationwide Series car. He finished 13th last season in a NASCAR truck series race at the mile-and-a-half quad-oval track, and two years ago he was 11th in an ARCA series race there.

Saturday’s Nationwide Series Meijer 300 will be broadcast at 5 p.m. (PT) on ESPN, which will air qualifying for the race at 1 p.m. (PT) on the same day. It will be the second of three straight “standalone” races for the series, with both NASCAR’s Cup and truck series slated to be at Michigan International Speedway this weekend.

California-based denim company Iron Horse Jeans will serve as Malsam’s primary sponsor of the No. 10 Toyota Camry this weekend at Kentucky. This is the first venture into motorsports for the jeans brand, known for offering a denim alternative for designer jean styles at an affordable price and with superior features. Since the company’s launch last year, it has sponsored numerous rodeo events and Arabian horse shows.

“I’m really excited about having Iron Horse Jeans as part of our team as we move into the summer stretch. Iron Horse Jeans look great, feel great and really fit well!” said Malsam. “I can’t wait to get out on the track at Kentucky, and hopefully bring home a win for Iron Horse Jeans and Braun Racing.”

Although he had no prior racing experience in the Nationwide Series car and little time to prepare for his series debut at Nashville, Malsam meshed so well with the Braun team that despite having electrical problems in practice and starting from the rear of the field due to an engine change, the Sammamish, Wash., native was able to steadily move through the field and challenge for a top-10 finish in the closing laps.

After starting this season in the NASCAR truck series for Kyle Busch Motorsports, Malsam was 11th in the standings after seven races before making the move to the Nationwide Series with Braun Racing on June 1 — just four days before the Nashville race. Malsam is currently scheduled to compete in a total of 13 Nationwide Series races for Braun.

In addition to the No. 10 Toyota, the Mooresville, N.C., based organization fields the No. 11, No. 32 and No. 38 cars in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series. Since its inception in 2002, Braun Racing has grown into a powerhouse team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series through its progressive technical and driver development associations with top Cup series teams. Braun Racing was selected as one of two full-time NASCAR Nationwide Series teams to partner with Toyota.
