Jonathon Gomez Posts Top Ten at Roseburg

Idaho Driver Contended for the Win Only to Finish Tenth After Spin
TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (June 9, 2010) Jonathon Gomez of Twin Falls, Idaho survived the 150-lap race at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR this past Saturday night. Gomez qualified third and was among the fastest cars all night but contact by another competitor relegated Gomez and the Heritage Motor Sports team to a tenth place finish and a badly damaged race car.

Gomez qualified third giving him an inside row and preferred starting position as passing on the tricky 3/8-mile paved oval is difficult at best. Gomez challenged for the top sport early with David Mayhew and Eric Holmes and after the initial laps were under his belt, the 27-year old competitor settled into the third position where he rode most of the event.

On lap 96 of the scheduled 150 laps, Gomez was running third but was tagged by another competitor as the duo exited turn turn. The contact lifted Gomez's Chevrolet in the air and caused him to spin. Luckily no one hit him and he was able to restart the race with no damage but he lost three positions.

Gomez worked his way back up to the fifth position by lap 114 but the #9 of Josh Combs spun in front of the field and Gomez dove low but was clipped in the right rear when Combs' car came down the track. The contact forced Gomez to the pits on three occasions to repair the deck lid and right rear quarter panel.

During the repairs, Gomez lost a lap to the field and soldered his way to the finish line and a tenth place finish. "I was not real happy with the way this all happened," Gomez offered. "We had a great race going and we were set up for a shot at the top spot only to get spun. It is real disappointing but we have a great team of guys who are committed to success and we will go on to Infineon and see what we can do there."

Gomez maintains the fourth position in the point standings after four races. The next event for Gomez is Saturday, June 19 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA for the first of three road course events on the 2010 schedule. In preparation for the Infineon event, Gomez particpated in a Mustang Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park (Tooele, UT) last month and scored victory and a second place finish in both races during the weekend.

"I am really excited about the road course races this year," Gomez said. "Even though I do not have a lot of experience on them, my crew chief (Craig Raudman) has a great set up and a really good car for the race so I have a lot of confidence heading into the race."

Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has started twelve NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring seven top ten finishes and is in his first full-time season in the NKNPS. Gomez will contend for championships in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour this season.
