Jonathon Gomez Determined; Seeks Breakout Performance at Iowa

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (May 20, 2011) Jonathon Gomez, driver of the Heritage Cattle Co./Century Boatland Chevrolet, enters Saturday's NASCAR's K&N Pro Series East/West Shootout at Iowa Speedway sitting third in the point standings. The 28-year old competitor is seeking his first series victory and he is confident that win could come at Iowa Speedway this weekend.


A strong start to the 2011 campaign has Gomez excited about a return to Iowa. "It is by far my favorite track," Gomez said. "The facility is fantastic and the fans are great, but racing there is just awesome. We have always been fast at Iowa and we are bringing the same car that we finished second with at Phoenix earlier this year so I am confident we will do well."

The 7/8-mile wide and fast paved oval produces some great side-by-side racing as well demands the best from the team. This year's event has been shortened by 25-laps, making tire management a key element in the race.

"Iowa tightens up like no other track we race on," Gomez offered. "I think having a lot of adjustment in the car is going to be key so when we make the stop for fuel and tires, we have options. You carry so much speed into the corner that saving your tires will be the difference in the race."

Last season, Gomez finished eighth overall and second among his peers in the West tying his best career finish. "As much as I want to win, I also want to win the Coors Pole Award," Gomez continued. "There is a lot on the line at this race with all the guys from the East in the field, so winning here is a really big deal. Craig (Raudman, crew chief) and the team are ready and we have a car that can win. I can't wait."

Gomez is coming off a fourth place performance three weeks ago Miller Motorsports Park in Utah in which he survived a race that was extended 12-laps and a mid-race altercation that nearly ended his day in disappointment. "I think our run at Miller demonstrated that we have made the jump to the next level," Gomez offered. "I want to win in the worse way and feel we have a great shot to do it Saturday night at Iowa."

Gomez currently sits third in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West championship standings after three races this season just 54-points out of second place and 112-points out of the point lead. Gomez has started 23 NASCAR K&N Pro Series races scoring five top five and eleven top ten finishes. He has also been running at the conclusion of every race he has started completing 99.6% of all laps contested in his career.

Race: This event marks the fifth year for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway. It is the only race in which the East and West compete for championship points in the same event. It is the fourth of 14 events on the 2011 schedule for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and the fourth of 12 events for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East this season.

Procedure: The starting field is 40 cars, including provisionals. The first 34 cars will qualify through two-lap time trials. The remaining six spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race will be 175 laps (153 miles).

Track: Iowa Speedway is a .875-mile paved oval with the turns banked 12-14 degrees, four degrees banking in the backstretch and 10 degrees banking in the frontstretch.
