Lap Attack returns to PGP Motorsports Park with Round 4 of the Fall-Winter Series this Sunday. No previous experience or expensive race cars are needed, either. Just bring your daily driver, or any other street-legal car, and see just how quick you can turn a lap around PGP.
Drivers in four categories, Open, Race Tire, Street Tire and Novice (see below for explanation of classes) will compete to turn the quickest times around PGP’s 14-turn .82-mile asphalt track. Drivers must possess a valid driver’s license.
Competitive sessions during each round will be four laps each, with drivers turning one out-lap to warm their tires before three hot laps. The best lap time for each session will be combined with the lowest overall total in each class winning that round. The top three drivers in each class will be awarded trophies at the end of each round.
Practice starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $60 for members, $80 for non-members, $25 transponder fee and $10 per pit pass. No passengers allowed. The Lap Attack Fall-Winter Series will resume with Round 5 on Feb. 13 and the finale on March 13.
There will be a live broadcast with commentary of Sunday’s event provided by eventbuilder.com and accessible through a link on the PGP website at www.PacificGP.com. The event will also be available for “on demand” viewing after Sunday by following the same link.
Lap Attack — like all racing at PGP — is rain or shine. A substantial amount of time and money was spent during the construction of PGP to mitigate all water issues. More than two miles of drain pipe sits under the specifically formulated asphalt that includes additional polymers and hardeners that increase the traction in the wet. This means you can expect great racing rain or shine year round.
Lap Attack classes
Open
• Low production vehicles (sub-500 annual U.S. production numbers excluding special editions of broad production vehicles such as the Nissan 370Z Nismo edition or Corvette ZR1).
• Specific cars at the discretion of the race director.
• Any vehicle without a valid or current U.S. or Canadian vehicle registration (dedicated race cars and most kit cars).
• Any DoT tire allowed.
• Any performance modification allowed.
Race Tire
• Any street-legal car that is not required to run in the Open class.
• Any DoT tire allowed.
• Any performance modification allowed.
Street Tire
• Any street-legal car that is not required to run in the Open class.
• Street tires (140 tread wear or higher) required.
• Any performance modifications allowed.
Novice
• Street tires (140 tread wear or higher) required.
• Any performance modifications allowed.
• Accumulated points do not apply towards season championship or season trophy.
• Achieving three podiums total will bump a driver into one of the upper three classes permanently or at the discretion of the race director.
• Novice drivers may voluntarily transition or participate in upper classes.
