Series organizers have retained their dedication to keeping travel expenses down and maximizing track time for competitors, but in one big change this season the I-5 series will be an official Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) Series, qualifying participants for the 2011 U.S. Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals to be held July 19-23 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooelle, Utah.
The 2011 I-5 series will adhere to the Rotax Max Challenge Series structure from top to bottom, from utilizing accredited officials to running specified RMC-length heats and mains. “By sticking to the program, we will be preparing our racers for the national-level events," said PARC owner Chris Egger. "We have big expectations for this year’s program."
In another change, this season the I-5 Corridor Series will focus almost exclusively on the two segments of the karting industry that have experienced growth in a period of declining participation: Rotax and the SKUSA-based Stock Honda Shifter program.
"It is very clear which segments of karting are growing and that is why we are concentrating our efforts toward these programs," said PGP owner Paul Zalud. “We’ve planned the 2011 I-5 Corridor Series around the schedules of the SKUSA ProTour and the Rotax U.S. Grand Nationals and the Rotax Pan American Series, allowing Pacific Northwest racers to support both our regional series and the national-level programs.”
The continued growth and resurgence of the Stock Honda Shifter program was clearly evident last November in Las Vegas when the biggest SKUSA SuperNationals in history attracted nearly 500 drivers from all over the world. The Rotax program has also stood the test of time and will enjoy a surge of growth this upcoming season with a restructured and refocused program all over North America.
Tough decisions had to be made with scheduling for the season, said Egger and Zalud, but there are only so many weekends in a year. With a broadening user base of motorsports customers using PARC and PGP, both facilities had very limited options to schedule the I-5 series.
Additional information about the I-5 Corridor Series will be provided soon, including significant announcements regarding incentive programs for the upcoming season and year-end awards for 2010. To learn more about PGP or PARC, visit www.pacificgp.com or www.patsacres.com.
