GET READY TO GET MUDDY! THE DIRTY DASH IS COMING TO PGP JULY 9

KENT, Wash. — (Jan. 31, 2011) When we were younger, our Gramma always said: “Never wrestle with a pig ... you both get dirty — but the pig likes it!”


But Gramma never said anything about The Dirty Dash, so PGP Motorsports Park is thrilled to host this charitable organization on July 9 for a “mud run obstacle course where military boot camp meets your inner 5 year-old’s fantasy and subsequently converts boy to man and then ... man to swine.”

That little quote comes from the hilarious Dirty Dash website, which sums up the qualifications needed for success as: “Endurance to trudge up mountains of sludge, courage to overcome uncompromising obstacles, a complete lack of shame to wallow in pits of mud and a smile to show through at the end!”

The Dirty Dash at PGP will start at 9 a.m. with competitive waves followed by the "fun" waves. There will be a break for the Piglet Plunge (over 2 and under 12) around noon and the kids will run between 12:30-1 p.m. The afternoon session will begin with competitive waves followed by "fun" waves again. The parking lot opens at 7 a.m. so you can stretch, shake out the pre-race jitters, and size up the competition.

Runners can go solo or team up with five to 20 of their filthiest friends. Individuals will run first in separate heats from the teams. For the teams, all members will run the entire course and are free to help each other out. Before the final mud pit, faster runners will be held so that the entire team hits the slop together. The clock stops when the entire team has crossed the finish line (any team that tries to cross without all its members is subject to public shaming).

Speaking of public shaming, did we mention costumes are not only permitted, but encouraged? Prizes will be handed out for The Dirty Dash Dirty 'Stache Award, The Dirty Dash Mud-Runway Award, The Dirty Dash Cleanest Name Award, and The Dirty Dash Filthiest Family Award, among others.

• $50 if before the end of June 26


The Dirty Dash will benefit your cardiovascular system, body image, and a charity to be named later. Races will also have a “Hot Wash” where spectators can purchase balloons to throw at the participants, the benefits also going to charity.

Competitors under 15 must sign a waiver and have an adult run with them for the entire race. Spectators are free to watch, walk around and throw water balloons bought at the Hog Wash at participants.

So, bring a towel, a bag for your dirty clothes and shoes, and a smile. A way for you to clean off will be provided, so don't worry about your car on the drive home.
