CarbonX returns for its fourth season as primary sponsor of the Late Model Stock Car touring series known for producing some of the best short track racing around. Century Boatland located in Twin Falls is returning as a major sponsor this season to the RMCS providing significant race support and contributions to the season ending point's fund. "We have great sponsors in CarbonX and Century Boatland," Minegar said. "They are both very happy with our series and see value in supporting us. Today it takes partnerships to make this whole thing work and without them I don’t think we could make it all work. John Gomez (Century Boatland) has been a great friend and supporter of the series."
2010 series champion Steve Jones out of Boise, Idaho is back to defend his championship and will debut a brand new Lefthander Chassis. "We are really excited about the new car and getting back to racing," Jones stated. "It is has been quite a thrash this week and I am not as prepared as would like to be but I can't wait to see how this new car works. Saturday night will be a lot of fun."
In ten previous series starts at MVS, the best finish for Jones is a second place performance in the season finale last year; despite having won more than fifty (50) times en route to claiming seven track championships.
"I have a lot of laps at Magic Valley but the RMCS has a lot of talent," Jones continued. "The invert really separates the men from the boys and it is a format I have really come to enjoy. The fans will see a great race."
Bobby Latham III of Twin Falls leads all drivers with four victories at MVS with two-time series champion Dave Minegar and 2009 champion John Dillon scoring three wins each. Tom Hill, Bryan Warf, James Eaton, and John Newhouse each have two wins apiece at MVS with eight other drivers claiming one victory. Of the multi-time winners at MVS, only 2007 champion John Newhouse will be in action this weekend.
Last season Bruce Quale scored his first series win in this event and was followed to the line by long tow stalwart Thane Alderman. Brett Thompson, Steve Jones, and Dylan Caldwell rounded out the top five.
John Newhouse will make his 60th career start (all-time starts leader) Saturday night. Newhouse also has 47 career top ten finishes in 59 starts along with 31 top five finishes and two wins. Two-time champion Dave Minegar will only compete on a part-time basis this year making his first start later in the season. Minegar is the track record holder with a quick lap of 14.216 seconds/84.328 mph and has 23 career Sharp Powder Coating Fast Time Awards.
Two-time series champion Zan Sharp is back full-time this season. Sharp has started 53 career races collecting six wins, eight fast times along with 34 top ten and 27 top five performances.
Embarking on his first full campaign this season is John Wong out of Parma, Idaho. Wong has started a handful of races over the past several years and enters this season with a great deal of optimism. He intended on running the entire schedule last season until he suffered a broken leg in a snowmobiling accident that sidelined him for most of the season. Wong made three starts at the tail end of the season scoring two top ten finishes. Wong drives a car built, prepared and serviced by Thompson Motorsports out of Jerome, Idaho.
Meridian Speedway legend John Nesmith will be competing full-time on the tour this season for the first time since the 2004 campaign. Nesmith purchased Tom Hill's racing winning car last season and is expected to challenge for the title. Another Meridian Speedway alum, Tyler Bailey, will compete for rookie-of-the-year honors this season and make his series debut Saturday night.
Racing action gets underway at 6pm with RMCS qualifying and a whole host of local racing action featuring six local racing divisions.
The RMCS utilizes a racing format not found in ANY other regional touring series around the country. The top 20 qualifiers are inverted for every race putting fast time in the 20th starting position. This format ensures race fans see what they paid for and that is passing. Each driver is awarded three points per position gained in the event. Points are also awarded for qualifying and heat race finishes. Through the history of the series, the winning driver has averaged a 15th place starting position. To ensure competition, the RMCS pays it purse based on total point accumulation for the event and provides several special performance awards at each race.
