MALSAM LOOKING FOR BIG BREAK AS NASCAR TRUCKS HEAD TO MUSIC CITY
For immediate release, One Eighty Racing (12-10)
LEBANON, Tenn. — (March 31, 2010) This weekend the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to Music City U.S.A., a place where one big break can catapult someone to superstardom. Appropriately, the winner of Friday’s Nashville 200 will earn one of the most coveted trophies in sports today.
Sophomore racer and Northwest native Tayler Malsam is ready for that big break, and the one-of-a-kind Sam Bass-designed Gibson guitar that would go along with it.
“I would love to win that — it’s one of my favorite trophies,” Malsam said. “It’s a must-have and I’ll be doing my best to get it.”
The Sammamish, Wash., native will be in the No. 56 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports in Friday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway, which will be televised on SPEED beginning with the Setup Show at 4:30 p.m. (PT).
The first in Bass’ ongoing series of Gibson Trophy Guitars was presented to Jack Sprague for winning a NASCAR Nationwide Series event in 2002. In the years since, dozens of trophy guitars have been presented to NASCAR’s winning drivers at Nashville Superspeedway. The trophy guitar awarded to each driver features all original artwork — making each one a unique creation.
Adding to the allure of the Sam Bass trophy is the fact that the only thing tougher than winning one — 35 other drivers will be vying for the same special prize on Friday — is winning another. In nine previous series races just 2008 champion Johnny Benson has repeated at the 1.33-mile concrete oval, winning in 2006 and 2008. Seven of the nine races were won by drivers starting in the top-15, and only 1995 champion Mike Skinner has been able to win the pole at Nashville more than once, starting first in 2005 and 2007.
“Nashville is pretty fun, but you have to run the bottom and have a truck that can stay there — otherwise you’re going backwards,” said Malsam, who started 13th and finished ninth there last season. “Qualifying well is a must at every track, if you start up front you’ll stay up front.”
Despite experiencing frustration in the first three races of the season, Malsam is No. 8 in the series standings, just 144 points behind leader Timothy Peters. Last weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Malsam crossed the line 14th after blowing a tire with two laps to go, losing a certain top-10 finish. He battled an ill-handling truck to a 13th-place finish in Atlanta and was 17th at the opener in Daytona after being collected in a multi-truck accident.
Last year at Nashville, four-time and defending series champion Ron Hornaday became the third driver to win five straight races in one of NASCAR’s national series and the first in 38 years. He joined Richard Petty and Bobby Allison, who both did it in 1971 in the Cup series. Petty holds the all-time record with 10 in a row in 1967.
Nashville Superspeedway will host two truck series races this season, picking up a second event in early August after NASCAR dropped The Milwaukee Mile from the schedule. Although he recorded top-10 finishes at both Nashville and Milwaukee last season, Malsam would have preferred the series return to a different venue when the August date came open.
“I wish we ran a different — bigger — track twice,” said Malsam, before adding with a laugh: “But it’s better than going to Martinsville three times or something like that.”

T Minus 6 Days For HayWire Racing
Tacoma, Washington –
2-29-2010 – Facing the kickoff of the 2010 racing season, the small family operated team of HayWire Motorsports rushes to get set for the opening day as they try to complete the #68 KMB / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Cornwell Tools Toyota Camry driven by “Terrible” Tim McDougald.
“We’ve been rushing like crazy to get this car done in time. I’m still a bit nervous about it. The guys have worked pretty hard; we’ve all put in a lot of hours. I’ll be happy when it is done and at the track” said driver “Terrible” Tim McDougald.
With the plan of running for “Rookie-of-the-Year” at Southsound Speedway quickly unfolding, the team tries to make final preparations to the new car before time runs out. “I think it’s going to be close” said “Terrible” Tim. “We haven’t thrown in the towel yet, but it’s been a battle. I’m really looking forward to kicking off this year, partly because it’ll mean the car is done. I think the new car is going to be great, it’s really starting to come together, it’s looking like a very nice piece. But only time will tell, we’ll know when we hit the track. We have some stuff we are trying this year that is all kind of new to us, so practice would have been very valuable but we missed those days so now we’re a bit behind. But I’m pretty confident my guys will come through when it matters, they always do.”
The 2010 racing season starts the first weekend of April for Southsound Speedway with the Limited Late Model class on tap for opening night, but Mother Nature may have something to say about it. “The long range forecast right now says rain all weekend, but it’s been different every day for the last week so it’s hard to say” said “Terrible” Tim. “That’s the joy of living in the Northwest, you just don’t know about the weather. But truthfully, I’d be ok with rain this time. We won’t give up just yet, but it’s a knock down, drag out fight right now.”
The team is also making preparations for the start of the Street Stock division the following week with their new rookie driver Donny Engh and the new #29 car. That car has been at practice over the last 3 weeks and has steadily improved, putting the team on track for the season opener in Street Stocks and it’s goal of “Rookie-of-the-Year” in that division as well.

Northwest Region announces pre-race show!
Stacy Verrall, SEATTLE, Wash. (March 27, 2010) – Warning to race fans in the northwest and beyond! Fred Rannard is going from trackside to worldwide, and he’s bringing ASCS Northwest teams, sponsors and promoters with him!
After a successful 2009 beta test, the ASCS Northwest will officially launch a 30 minute pre-race show this season titled The Passing Point, hosted by series announcer, Fred Rannard Jr.
"I look forward to stepping up and doing the show,” Rannard shares. “I see it being great for our series. We will make it fun for the fans and the guests.”
The show will be broadcast live at the track for fans attending ASCS Northwest races AND for fans watching from home on their computers. The hope is that The Passing Point will offer greater insights and a deeper appreciation for the drivers, teams, sponsors and promoters diligently working together to offer the northwest one of the finest racing experiences of the summer.
“I’m excited for the teams, fans and promoters this season,” Greg Burgess, Series Director, emphasizes. “This will not only help drivers and teams with more exposure, but it will be great for their sponsors as well. Fans at this level of racing don’t always get a lot of insight into the stars of the sport. The Passing Point will hopefully change some of that and be a fun and rewarding adventure for all.”
Sponsored in part by JD Inflatable Advertising and produced/filmed by ASCS Northwest staffers Brian Egan and Nathan Prince, The Passing Point is a must see for all who consider themselves dirt track fans.
Together we can make the northwest the premier destination for sprint car racing, and The Passing Point is a small step towards uniting the fans, teams, sponsors, and promoters in the direction of “togetherness.”
Additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available at www.ascsracing.com and www.ascsnorthwest.com.

MALSAM’S SOLID RUN NEARLY RUINED BY LATE FLAT
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — (March 27, 2010) There are plenty of positives for Tayler Malsam to take away from Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway.
It just may take a few days for the sting to go away.
The Northwest native limped past the checkered flag in 14th place after blowing a tire with two laps to go in the Kroger 250, losing what looked to be a solid top-10 finish in the blink of an eye at the paperclip-shaped half-mile oval.
“It stinks, but we can’t do anything about it,” Malsam said after the race. “We learned a lot and showed we can run up front. You just want to get a good finish and the last three races we haven’t been able to do that.”
Current NASCAR Cup series points leader Kevin Harvick dominated the race for his fourth straight truck series victory, starting on the pole and leading 187 of 250 laps. Harvick briefly fell to sixth after a round of pit stops during a caution just past the halfway point, but he got around Timothy Peters with 61 laps remaining to regain the lead for good.
Four-time defending series champion Ron Hornaday, who also races for Kevin Harvick Inc., finished second; Brian Ickler, driving in place of Malsam’s team owner Kyle Busch, was third; Peters was fourth and former champion Johnny Benson rounded out the top five.
During the first two-thirds of the race Malsam ran as high as seventh but spent most of his time between 10th and 15th. The Sammamish, Wash., native gained positions on longer green-flag runs, but his Toyota Tundra took a beating from incidental contact — “That’s Martinsville,” said Malsam — and when two caution-causing accidents occurred near him.
Despite the disappointment of losing his first top-10 finish of the season, Malsam and his Kyle Busch Motorsports crew have some positives to take away from Martinsville.
Despite struggling with handling issues during Friday’s two practice sessions — Malsam was no better than 20th quick — the crew improved the truck before and during the race, giving Malsam the chance to remain near the front of the field. Malsam also continued to develop his working relationship with crew chief Dan Stillman, who joined KBM for its inaugural season racing in the truck series after working with Carl Edwards in the Nationwide Series.
Perhaps best of all, after the race the unofficial point standings showed Malsam had moved up a spot to No. 8.
“I’m not sure how that happened,” said Malsam with a small laugh. “But, it’s good to be up there when we’re not running as well as we should, so that when things turn around we’ll be right in the middle of it.”
Malsam finished the season-opening race at Daytona 17th after being collected in an accident. He battled an ill-handling truck to a 13th-place finish three weeks ago in Atlanta.
In all there were 11 caution periods in Saturday’s race, with the final yellow flag waving with about 25 laps to go when Johnny Sauter spun out after getting bumped from behind by Hornaday. Sauter, who collected Mike Skinner’s truck in the incident, had some heated words for Hornaday on pit road after the race.
After that caution, Malsam restarted in ninth and he had advanced one position before blowing his left-front tire. With sparks flying from under his truck, Malsam had no choice but to remain on the track for the final two laps and salvage the best finish he could.
Qualifying on Friday was rained out and the field was set by NASCAR rule, using owners points from last season. Although Harvick did not run the full season last year, he moved the points from Hornaday’s championship team to his second truck, putting the owner-driver on the pole. Hornaday started 31st.
KBM purchased the points for Malsam’s truck from Xpress Motorsports before the start of the season. The No. 18 truck, which Ickler and Busch will share driving duties in this season, started 32nd. Busch was originally slated to drive at Martinsville and Ickler next week at Nashville, but Busch switched the schedule when a new sponsor wanted the Cup star behind the wheel next weekend.

Kasey Kahne gives his take on the new spoiler...
GETTING THE FEEL OF THE SPOILER
3/23/2010
THIS WEEK IN FORD RACING
Concord, N.C. — Kasey Kahne was among one of many teams that participated in the first day of a two-day test session at Charlotte Motor Speedway to make laps with the new spoiler.
Kahne came into the infield media center to answer questions about today’s test and his season to date.
KASEY KAHNE – NO. 9 BUDWEISER FORD FUSION
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT HOW THE TEST IS GOING?
“I think it’s good to get out here. We don’t get a whole lot of tests at race tracks anymore, so it’s nice when we do.
"I think it’s definitely a help for all the teams. You can try some things that will work at Texas and work at other race tracks as well, and, hopefully, make gains with the cars.
"The spoiler, to me, feels a bit different. This is the first time I’ve driven it, so down the straightaways it’s a little dragier. The cars feel pretty stuck in the corners, but the tires are a little bit different this year also, so that probably changes that somewhat. But, really, it’s been a pretty good day so far. We’re just trying things and running through some stuff.”
CAN YOU TAKE US ON A LAP AROUND THIS TRACK AND HOW IT FEELS INSIDE THE CAR?
“There are a couple spots here that are pretty big spots that I work on, and it changes so much when we come back for the race with the weather. The track temp is hotter, so the track drives a lot differently in May than it does right now.
"Right now, there’s a lot of grip and everybody is pretty quick, but that will change a lot in May. There are always a couple spots on entry and the center of the corner that I look for and, hopefully, we can get our car to do the right stuff through those spots—just keeping the front turning and the back in the track—normal things.”
CAN YOU DUMB THIS DOWN AND TELL US WHY THIS MATTERS?
“The back of the car, the downforce and sideforce, all of that stuff matters when you’re racing cars. So far, I haven’t felt a big difference by myself. I think it’s somewhat similar with the spoiler and the wing.
"On the straightaways the speed is a little different because of the drag side of it, but the car probably handles pretty similar. I think when we get side-by-side and you get racing people, that’s when it’ll be a bigger difference than it is right now.
"NASCAR is probably just wanting to see the speeds and see how fast the cars are in the corners, how fast they are on the straightaways, the gears—that’s a lot different for this test than what it was last year—so there’s a lot of little things they’re probably trying to figure out as well as the teams, but I think we find out more when we get racing each other.”
[KEVIN] HARVICK SAID EVEN 10 CARS TOGETHER WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO SIMULATE RACE CONDITIONS. KURT [BUSCH] SAID YOU WANT TO GET YOUR TEAMMATES TOGETHER AND TRY TO FIGRUE SOMETHING OUT. WILL YOU TRY TO DO THAT AND GET A FEEL FOR RACE CONDITIONS?
“When you’re out there and you catch a car, you drive up behind them and you pass them, or they pass you, I think you feel that a little bit over two days of testing. But, really, until you get in the race and until you get with a lot of cars, you don’t know exactly what’s gonna go on.
"On any given weekend, we don’t race side-by-side in practice. That’s not how we get our cars prepared and set up the way you want them for each race.
"I think we just test the way we’re going to test and when we come back for the race, you do it normal and I think it will work fine. I think Texas will be a good race. I like the package. I thought it was pretty good right off the bat, so I think it’s been a good change.”
YOU’RE 23RD IN POINTS. IS THIS TEST MORE CRITICAL FOR YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE NOT BEHIND?
“We’re behind right now. I think it’s just the same for everybody and it’s good for us to be able to come here and work on some things. We had a part failure on Sunday. There’s nothing we could do about that. We were fast before it happened, so we’re actually doing pretty good this year.
"The points don’t show it, but we can easily get to where we need to be, it’s just a matter of not having anymore failures, and not having myself make mistakes like I did at California. If we can get away from that stuff, then we shouldn’t have a problem.”
HAVE YOU GOTTEN ENOUGH FEEL FOR THIS TEAM AND FORD AFTER FIVE RACES AS TO A DIRECTION YOU WANT TO GO IN THE FUTURE?
“Not yet. Like I said, I feel like we’ve had a pretty good five races—seven if you count the other two to start the year—so I feel pretty good about where we’re at and where we can still go this year.
"We’ve had just a few things go on, but that’s racing and things happen. I think we can recover from that and gain some of those points back pretty quick, and get in the top 12 and win races. I think this is a great test to come here and be prepared for this track in May. There are two really big races here that we’d love to win, and then I also think this helps us for Texas, too. I think it’s good for the 9 guys to be here for sure.”
DO YOU NOTICE ANY FEEL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPOILER AND WING?
“To me, it has more drag and then in the corners the car seems pretty planted. I think that will be good when you’re racing cars, but there are two things here. This is the first time I’ve driven the spoiler and it’s the first time I’ve driven on this tire.
"The tire is different than what we had last year, so is it the spoiler I’m feeling in the corner? Is it the tire I’m feeling in the corner? It’s kind of difficult to say, but there’s definitely more drag on the straightaway and then you just work around the feeling in the corner. It’s just fine, but it’s hard to say exactly what’s going on in the corners because this is my first time with the spoiler.”
IS MARTINSVILLE THE BEST PLACE TO START WITH THE SPOILER BECAUSE THERE’S LITTLE AERO INVOLVED?
“I think Martinsville is good, definitely before we get to another fast track is the time to do it. It’s great to have a test here and to practice with it a little bit before we go to some of these places, but I think Martinsville is good. Bristol would have been fine.
"We started with the wing at Bristol and Kyle [Busch] won, and we ended with it there and Jimmie [Johnson] won, so they took control of those two races—the start and finish with the wing. So Martinsville is fine.”
SPECIFICALLY, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WITH THE SPOILER AT MARTINSVILLE? ARE THE SPEEDS SO LOW THAT IT’S JUST NOT GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
“They’re low and just the way that it feels here, I wouldn’t say that it would make much of a difference, if any difference, at Martinsville. We know it’s gonna race different here just because the speeds are up and it’s completely different than a wing, but it still feels pretty similar, so you get to a short track where there’s not nearly as much air on it, I’d say it’s a wash. Either way, you could go to Martinsville and probably run about the same.”
IS THERE ANYWAY THE SPOILER WILL STOP JIMMIE JOHNSON?
“Let’s hope so.
"I don’t know (smiling). I wouldn’t say that this is gonna change Jimmie Johnson, but maybe it’ll slow him down. Who knows? Everybody is definitely trying hard. I think everybody is sick of getting beat by Jimmie Johnson, so we just keep working hard and try to figure out how to beat him, but I doubt this will slow him down. I think we need to speed up.”
IN THE WING ERA THERE WERE 93 RACES. JIMMIE, KYLE AND CARL [EDWARDS] WON 46 OF THOSE. DID THEY KNOW SOMETHING OR FIND SOMETHING NO ONE ELSE DID?
“I think you can look at it and see that they all found something at certain times, but Jimmie has been the most consistent with it and he’s won every single year with that package and been good.
"Carl won nine in one of the years and I don’t know how many he’s won since, so I think it’s just things that you hit on and things that work for your driving style and the way you hit on stuff. I just think the 48 stays above everybody and they keep hitting on things and working hard. I would say Kyle was the same way as Carl. I haven’t seen Kyle winning many race lately either, so it’s definitely changed. They change each year.”

This will the Snohomish, Wash. native’s second start behind the wheel of Midgley’s race car after a successful run in South Africa as part of the Free State 500 held in January.
Making a start on the West Coast’s premier NASCAR Touring Series is a pinnacle mark in Lewis’ career, he said.
“Personally I have strived to reach a higher level of NASCAR racing for many years,” explained the 1998 and 2006 NASCAR Northwest Series champion.
“I am very excited for this opportunity that Midgley Motorsports has given me. Hopefully we can get a good clean run and then maybe run a few more races (later in the season) together.”
Having worked with Midgley’s team in South Africa and having key personnel from Gary Lewis Racing helping in Roseville, a comfortable bond is developing that should prove successful for 2010, Lewis added.
“I know that Dick Midgley and his guys are working very hard to give me the best car they can (from their stable). It’s a pretty cool deal too because Dick has actually been calling me off and on bouncing set-up stuff off me for this weekend. I think we are at a point already that we trust and respect each other opinions and ideas.”
With a strong run under his belt in a Midgley intermediate car at the Free State 500, Lewis believes that many of the things learn while running that event could carry over to the West Series opener.
“Yes I do believe that experience in South Africa will help but short track racing is what I do primarily (in the Northwest) so I feel very comfortable going to a new track like All-American and learning the line and the car all at the same time,” said the 39-year old driver. “This will not be an easy task at all but this race is what I have been working up to for a long time so I think we will do just fine.”
Using set-up notes from short tracks across the West Coast that Lewis has had strong runs can be applied to the SEFNCO Chevrolet, he added.
“I think that some of the same theories would apply for the most part. I just need to learn a few things in regard to the shocks, big springs and truck arms. I feel that I can make a smooth transition fairly quick this weekend to the different type of car in a short track environment.”
If things go well this weekend Lewis is hopeful of a run with Midgley Motorsports at upcoming NASCAR K&N Pro Series West events including Phoenix in April.
“At this point in my career I’m trying to step out and focus on what I really love to do. I want to race the big tracks, road courses and also defend my Montana and Idaho 200 titles. Of course racing the big track stuff would be in the K&N Pro Series West and that requires some big advertising programs which in the end will be the determining factor on if we’re able to some of those or not.”
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West 2010 season opener is set for Saturday, March 27 at All-American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. With a starting field of 24 cars many of the West Coast’s top drivers have circled the opener as a place to start off with 150 laps of solid short track racing.

MALSAM, NASCAR TRUCK SERIES READY FOR SOME SHORT-TRACK RACING
For immediate release, One Eighty Racing (09-10)
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — (March 24, 2010) It is one of NASCAR’s iconic tracks, but Pacific Northwest native Tayler Malsam didn’t circle in his day planner the date of Saturday’s visit to Martinsville Speedway by the Camping World Truck Series.
“It’s kind of fun, but you have to run the bottom all the time and wait around to lap 200 to go,” Malsam said of the unusually-shaped half-mile oval. “Not one of my favorite tracks, but I know the fans like it.”
Saturday’s Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway will be televised at 10:30 a.m. (PT) on SPEED. The cable network will also broadcast truck series practice at 10 a.m. (PT) and qualifying at 1:30 p.m. (PT) on Friday.
Martinsville is said to resemble two flat 800-feet drag strips connected at either end by tight, gently sloped corners, earning it the nickname “The Paperclip.” With 36racetrucks hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph on the straightaways, quarters are close and drivers have little time to react. As with any short track the NASCAR truck series visits, contact is inevitable.
“If you can get your truck to take off in the corners you can be fast, but if not …” said Malsam, who finished 14th in the first of two Martinsville races last season. “The goal there is to make the straightaways as long as possible, to not use up your brakes. And we’ll have to use the ‘chrome horn’ a lot to move slower trucks out of the way.”
The Sammamish, Wash., native did not do as well in the second Martinsville race in 2009, starting 10th but dropping out with transmission problems just past the halfway point and finishing 28th. The Camping World Truck Series will race twice at Martinsville again this year, returning in late October.
Martinsville Speedway pre-dates the formation of NASCAR by two years and is one of four tracks from the truck series’ inaugural schedule in 1995 to host a race this season. Originally intended to bring NASCAR racing to smaller tracks, the “SuperTruck Series” also visited two Northwest tracks in its first season: Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., and Oregon’s Portland Speedway. NASCAR later modified the series’ schedule to include a mix of short tracks, superspeedways and intermediate tracks. Along with Martinsville, just Bristol, Phoenix and O’Reilly Raceway Park are still on the 2010 schedule.
Saturday’s Kroger 250 marks Malsam’s third race in the No. 56 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Three weeks ago in Atlanta, Malsam fought an ill-handling truck early but bounced back for a 13th-place finish in the E-Z-Go 250. That result boosted him to ninth overall in the series points, up eight spots after he was collected in a multi-truck accident en route to a 17th-place finish in the season-opener at Daytona in mid-February.
Martinsville also marks Malsam’s third race with Dan Stillman as his crew chief. Last year, Stillman was atop the pit box for Nationwide Series runner-up Carl Edwards. Edwards ran very well at short tracks in 2009, including winning the Nationwide race at O’Reilly Raceway Park. Malsam is looking forward to improving his short-track results by working with Stillman.
“His short-track setup program is good, and he stays calm no matter what happens,” Malsam said of Stillman. “I think he’s a smart cookie when it comes to that, he doesn’t get aggravated on the box. If he stays calm, I stay calm.”
Malsam’s team owner and defending NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Kyle Busch is No. 5 in the truck series standings after finishing second in Atlanta to fellow Cup star Kevin Harvick.

Head to Pacific Raceways March 20-21, 2010 to watch US National Extreme Karts battle it out at speeds up to 150 miles per hour!
Pacific Raceways’ 2.25 mile road course will feature nose to nose extreme kart racing, which makes an for an intense and exciting event for the whole family! The races start at 9am and go until 5pm on both days. Daily admission is $10 for adults, $5 for youth 7-14, and children 6 and under are free! One of the featured Kart racers is Chris Hegar, who races in three classes; Formula 125, Limited heavy, and Super stock CR 125, and he drives a Shark Shifter kart. Hegar has been racing for 20 years, and he is from Portland, OR. Hegar typically races in 4-5 events year. His brother, Ryan a fellow kart racer, is his strongest competitor.
Hegar commented on racing at Pacific Raceways, “regardless of the weather [I’m] excited to race at Pacific Raceways, …..[Pacific Raceways has] one of the best tracks, in terms of layouts, just not that many people realize the potential that this track has.” Hegar and his brother travel all over the country, thanks to sponsors; Hagar 4 Manufacturing, Shark Shifter, and NGK Spark Plugs.
Another featured Kart racer is Scott Beaudoin, who races in the CR 125 shifter class, and he drives an Aero kart. Beaudoin has been racing on and off since the 70’s, and he is from Vancouver, WA. Beaudoin’s father started racing in 1963, and his family had a Go Kart shop, Beaudoin grew up racing. The Hegar brothers are some of his strongest competitors. Beaudoin’s goal at the US Nationals are to have a dry event (hopefully), and having a good position on the last lap, Beaudoin said, “if you’re positioned correctly in the last lap, then you’ll do awesome, if you’re not positioned correctly or strategically, then you wont place as well.”
Beaudoin said the toughest hurdle is, “keeping note, getting a base set up to work off of, racing in general is always changing.” Beaudoin is able to continue racing thanks to his sponsors; BRW Racing, Kart-O-Rama in Sumner, WA.

TC Motorsports Improves Results at Homestead Miami
Auburn, WA, March 12, 2010--TC Motorsports continues to improve its finishes in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC). Drivers Ted Anthony, Jr. and Rick Edwards finished 19th in the Homestead 200 at Homestead Miami Speedway on Saturday, March 6, 2010. It was the second race for the team in CTSCC, and the first race for the #14 TC Motorsports Mustang Boss 302R. The 19th place finish is an improvement over the team's 31st place finish in the first race of the season and the first race for the team in CTSCC.
The team took delivery of the new Boss 302R on March 2 at Carolina Motorsports Park, and had the car on track for the first time two days later at Homestead Miami Speedway. With the team just having two sessions with the car, Edwards qualified the car 22nd out of 33 cars in the Grand Sport (GS) class. After some cars failed post-qualifying technical inspections, the #14 moved up to 18th on the grid.
However, the team was not able to capitalize on its improved grid position because the car was late to grid. So, Edwards started the 2.5 hour at the back of the 33-car GS class. Edwards made the best of the situation, though, racing as high as 10th during his stint. During the second yellow flag period of the race, Edwards pitted from 11th for tires, fuel, and to install Anthony in the car. Anthony rejoined the race in 29th and raced all the way to 4th, keeping pace with the leaders.
The race was a bit of a gamble for the team. Because of the team's limited amount of time with the new Boss 302R (only a handful of sessions), they had limited data as to how far the car could go on fuel. So, the team decided to roll the dice and see how long they could keep Anthony out on track. As it turns out, Anthony was forced to make one more stop, from 4th, for fuel. He rejoined the race in 19th, which is where he would finish.
Team Principal Carlo Sparacio said, "We're really happy with the new Boss 302R from Ford Racing. It performed well right out of the box. As with the last race, we are happy with our performance during this race. Both the team and drivers did a great job, so as we get more time with the new car, we'll get the results we're looking for." The next CTSCC race is Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL.
If you didn't get a chance to watch the Homestead 200 via GRAND-AM's live timing and scoring, watch (or set your DVR for) the race this weekend on SPEED at 1:00 pm Eastern (10:00 am Pacific). Plus, keep an eye out for Anthony's race report on ColdTrackDays. Just search for posts tagged with "Ted Anthony Jr." or "TC Motorsports."
20 Questions with Cindi Lux
Who is Cindi Lux? Her resume speaks for its self- Twelve Road Racing Championships: 80 first place finishes, 48 second place finishes, 29 third place finishes, 50 pole positions She’s know as a road racer, & an instructor. She’s even made some laps on oval tracks in Legends & Late Models. 3 poles, 1 track record in a Legend Car. We wanted to take a little of her time, so you could get to know her a little better.
1. Of all your wins, which one means the most to you?
Tough question to answer, as there were some incredible battles in some of those victories. Winning the prestigious SCCA June Sprints at Road America twice is huge. Once in a Corvette and once in a Viper SRT10. Ironically, this is the same track that I had some of my worse accidents on too. So this place is bitter sweet to me.
2. Coke or Pepsi?
Neither. Water.
3. Name some of the other drivers you've had the pleasure to be teammates with?
I have had some wonderful teammates and co-drivers over the years. Darren Law, John Morton, Randy Pobst, Divina Galica, Scotty White and Stan Wilson.
4. Who’s your racing hero?
My Dad. He ran in the Northwest back in the 50’s and 60’s in a Ferrari Testarosa. He won the first Rose Cup Race in 1961 at Portland International Raceway. His racing career was over 20+ years.
5. If you could win any race, which one would it be?
Le Mans
6. Have you ever had a pink fire suit?
No. Actually, that would be a “hell no”.
7. What person has had the biggest influence on your driving career?
The person sponsoring me!
8. Your also know as a driving coach. Name some of the people you've had the chance to instruct.
I have had the privilege of coaching a lot of great people in my career. Teaching is a wonderful way for me to give back to the sport. It’s made me really study the art of teaching. Reading body language, eye movement and other factors. Driving a race car requires a skill set but also a confidence level of their abilities. Racing is more mental than what people really realize. That is why I work with the US Olympic Sports Psychology Department for the past 7 years.
9. One thing all new drivers should know?
Seat time and then more seat time. Worry learning the basics and then speed will come. When people try to concentrate on speed, it will never come. Learn the “process” on how to get speed vs. just trying to do “fast”. There is a huge difference and will separate ok drivers from really good drivers.
10. Favorite food?
Sushi
11. How many different manufacture's have you driven for?
Porsche
Ford
BMW
Dodge
Mitsubishi
12. Favorite racecar you've had the pleasure to drive?
Porsche GT3RS in ALMS GT-2 category.
13. Club racing or pro racing, which one do you enjoy more & why?
Pro Racing is just so different. From a business standpoint, technical stand point, personnel ECT. It really is a full time job for a team to run in proracing. I love it from the competitive on track aspect. I think as a driver, I long the “paint swapping” professional driving. Less mistakes on track from other competitors. Club racing is a lot more social and relaxing. So a blend of both is healthy.
14. What is it like working with your husband Fred?
Absolutely the best thing in my racing career. He is truly a genius and very talented. Makes my job as a driver much easier. I certainly would not have gotten to the level without his involvement over the years.
15. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I was a weird kid. I had all older brothers who I tried to hang out with. We road dirt bikes, snowmobiles ect. You know all the things that normally the little sister shouldn’t do with her brothers. But I raised, showed and trained Arabian horses starting when I was 7 yrs old until I graduated from UPS. I never had a certain career mapped out in my brain. But all I knew was I wanted to do something exciting and different.
16. Desert island CD collection. If you only had 10 CD's to pick what would they be?
Phantom of the Opera (pretty weird, huh?)
17. Fried or steamed rice?
Fried. And a huge glass of wine.
18. Favorite racetrack?
The last one that I won a race on! They are all great.
19. Favorite racing series?
Racing series on the pro levels changes a lot from time to time. From politics to manufactures involvement. And the higher you go in racing, the more politics there are. Grand-AM is the hottest thing on the market at the moment.
20. Do you have any other hobbies?
Are you kidding, who has time? Live and breathe racing.

KMB Returns To HayWire Racing For 2010
Tacoma, Washington –
3-10-2010 – KMB design groups, long time marketing partner with HayWire Racing, has agreed to continue their support of the small Tacoma based family operation for the 2010 racing season, agreeing to be the primary sponsor for the #68 Toyota Camry driven by “Terrible” Tim McDougald.
With the season quickly approaching, the sponsor package for the #68 Toyota Camry looks much like it did before with all the 2009 sponsors returning for the 2010 racing season. “We couldn’t be happier to finally get all of our 2009 sponsors back on the car for this year,” said driver “Terrible” Tim. “We’ve really been blessed with a great group of marketing partners on the #68 Toyota Camry and I’m very happy to continue that relationship with those partners into the 2010 season and beyond. KMB has been the anchor of our sponsor package for several years now. They are a great group and we love being able to represent them both on and off the track. Hargis has returned for another season after joining us last year. We really look forward to giving them the excitement and performance they deserve. Print-NW has been great, providing us with what we think is the BEST looking car on the track and they’ve kept it looking great year after year. We really look forward to displaying what they can accomplish for our car as well as their customers. And Ringers Gloves has been with us for a few years now and we look forward to carrying the Ringers colors again this season and representing them. We’re still in negotiations with a couple other companies and we’re always willing to meet with anyone who is interested in joining our team.”
“Terrible” Tim and the #68 KMB / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves Toyota Camry will be making a run for the ‘Rookie-of-the-Year’ title at Southsound Speedway in Tenino, Washington where the HayWire Racing team will be fielding 3 cars this season. “We’re really looking forward to our newest team car and driver Donny Engh making his debut behind the wheel as he starts his run for ‘Rookie-of-the-Year’ in his division,” said “Terrible” Tim. “We are also looking forward to our premier car, the Super Stock, and Tommy Rasmussen returning to the track in the newly updated #92 Chevrolet Impala. As you can see, we have a lot of really big plans this year and we are looking forward to our best year ever!”
Be sure to catch the #68 KMB / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves Toyota Camry and driver “Terrible” Tim this season along with all the HayWire Motorsports drivers and cars as they descend upon Southsound Speedway during the 2010 racing season.

KAHNE TOPS FORD DRIVERS AT 6TH, GREG BIFFLE 13TH
http://www.fordracing.com/
Hampton, Ga. — Kasey Kahne was the highest-qualifying Ford for Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway with a sixth-place effort. Elliott Sadler (eighth) and Carl Edwards (10th) also finished in the Top 10.
KASEY KAHNE – NO. 9 BUDWEISER FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED SIXTH)
“I was really happy with it. Our Budweiser Ford was fast and did everything I wanted it to do, but the sun is just straight in your eyes so you’re completely blinded on entry into [Turn] 1.
"You just hope you pick the right spot. I came pretty close, but I missed it. The wind was fine. I didn’t even feel it. You just kind of drive through it. When these cars are in qualifying trim and locked down on the ground like that, you don’t really feel the wind. They’re pretty sealed off and it’s a lot of fun to drive a car like that. You can drive about as hard as you want to.”
ELLIOTT SADLER – NO. 19 HUNT BROTHER’S PIZZA FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED EIGHTH)
“I’m so tickled. We haven’t qualified that good the last couple races, so we decided to put a lot of emphasis and a lot of effort into it this weekend to come to Atlanta, and I’m very proud of my guys.
"We’ve got Hunt Brother’s Pizza on the car today and the car looks good. It’s a lot warmer than standing outside, to be honest with you, right now, but I’m very proud of my guys. It’s a good way to start the weekend off.”
WAS THE SUN DOWN ENOUGH FOR YOU?
“It was kind of tough getting into Turn 1 from the sun standpoint. The draw did not help our team, but I’m very satisfied with the effort we put forth today. It was a great effort by everybody.”
CARL EDWARDS – NO. 99 SCOTTS FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED 10TH)
“The lap was OK. It’s very exciting going into Turn 1. The Scotts Ford Fusion, I drove down in there and you can’t see anything. It didn’t really slow me down much, though, because I think I lost more time down there in [Turns] 3 and 4. I actually got in Turns 1 and 2 pretty good with some luck and I’m just hoping it holds up for a top 15 or so.
"We got kind of a bad draw. The cars that go out later are gonna get faster and faster, but hopefully we get a good spot.
"I’m pretty excited about the race. This is one of my favorite race tracks to race on. It’s my favorite oval and I’m just excited about it.”
GREG BIFFLE – NO. 16 U.S. CENSUS FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED 13TH)
“I just couldn’t see anything. I was trying to reference where the wall was so I didn’t hit it and I couldn’t see anything at all. As far as Sunday goes, though, I feel pretty good.
"It’s not any fun starting from the back, but I think we’ve got a pretty good car. We’re just looking forward to tomorrow’s practice to try and fine tune it. We only got two runs today in race trim, so we’ll see about tomorrow and see if we can’t get it better.”
DAVID RAGAN – NO. 6 UPS FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED 17TH)
“I think we’ve got something to work with. It obviously doesn’t look like it’s gonna be that good of a lap, but it was a decent pickup. We picked up four-tenths from practice, but it just wasn’t quite enough.
"I think we’ve got a good race car for Sunday and, hopefully, the track doesn’t cool off much more in qualifying for the guys behind us.”
PAUL MENARD – NO. 98 CERTAINTEED/MENARDS FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED 23RD)
“All of the RPM cars got early draws. I think we’re all in the top 10 or top 11, which is pretty big here because the sun is going down and it’s gonna be dark here in another 20 minutes.
"The car has been good since we unloaded it. We did a few race runs and had a lot of speed on old tires, so that’s big here. We picked up four-tenths in qualifying, so, hopefully, we get a top 20 start. That’s kind of what I was shooting for today, but the draw is hurting us.”
DID YOU WORK ON QUALIFYING RUNS MORE THIS WEEKEND?
“Yeah, the last two weeks Saturday was supposed to be a washout at California and Las Vegas, so we had to practice race runs on Friday. Today, we didn’t really have to but we did a little bit to get an idea for tomorrow.
"Obviously, the track is gonna rubber up a lot and in happy hour we’ll get a good read on it, but the car is good.”
BILL ELLIOTT – NO. 21 MOTORCRAFT FORD FUSION (QUALIFIED 34TH)
“We were way off in practice. It’s just so tough when you don’t run a few races and then come back.
"When you run California and Vegas, which are both similar to this place as far as being high speed, I feel like when I come in that I’m so far off. It’s just hard to make it up. I feel like I’ve got a good car, but just trying to put the little pieces together to make the difference. A tenth here and a tenth here, but if you’re off a few tenths driving-wise, it just makes it frustrating.”

BODINE GETS HIS GOLD IN VANCOUVER
American Speed Association PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Monday, March 1, 2010) - From the goldmines near the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, Free State, South Africa to the Whistler Sliding Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Geoff Bodine can truly say he has been surrounded by gold so far this year. Over the weekend, his "Night Train" bobsled won the gold medal in the four-man bobsled event at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
"USA OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL BOBSLEDDER STEVE HOLCOMB,YOU ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD!! CONGRATULATIONS TO STEVE AND ALL OUR BOBSLEDDER ATHLETES AND TO OUR GIRLS BRINGING HOME THE BRONZE." Bodine posted on his Facebook page. The win ended a 62-year gold medal drought for the four-man USA Bobsled team.
The four-man team team consisted of Steve Holcomb, Driver; Justin Olson, Push athlete; Steve Mesler, Push Athlete; and Curtis Tomasevicz, Brakeman won the gold medal by 0.38 seconds over the favored Germany 1 team.
Bodine was in attendance to see witness the historical event.
It was a successful Olympics for the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project as the women's team with Erin Pac and Elana Meyers took the bronze medal. The team of Bree Schaaf and Emily Azevedo was fifth and Shauna Rohbock and Michelle Rzepa was sixth.
Holcomb and Tomasevicz finished sixth in the two-man competition.
Holcomb's gold medal achieved the goal that Bodine, the 1986 Daytona 500 champion, set in 1992 after he noticed that USA Bobsled was competing with European made sleds. He teamed up with Bob Cuneo, owner of Chassis Dyanmics and they created the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project Inc., a "Made in America" sled project. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City they broke the medal drought with a silver and a bronze in the four-man competition along with a gold in the women's competition.
The win on Saturday, along with Bodine being there, fulfilled a long time dream, "I always watched the Olympics when I was a boy and dreamed about being up there," Bodine said in a statement on the Bo-Dyn Bobsled site. "When I see our bobsled athletes on the podium it is like it is me up there."
Last month, Bodine was behind the wheel of a stock car and competed in the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500 event at the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, Free State, South Africa. He was the fast qualifier for the event and was on his way to victory until he ran out of fuel with three laps to go, handing the win over to John Mickel.
Bodine is also an active competitor in the ISCARS Dash Series Sanctioned by ASA.
"We are very excited for Geoff and his Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project on achieving this great accomplishment," Dennis Huth, ASA President. "Geoff is very proud of this project and it shows that hard work pays off. As we were surrounded by gold mines at Phakisa, Geoff would smile anytime someone asked him about his bobsled project. He had a good feeling after the four-man team won the world championships last year and we are pleased that he was there to witness it in person."
