PRO DRIFTER POLLARD LOOKING TO HAVE FUN AT PGP’S BIGGER FOOT BASH
KENT, Wash. — (Sept. 7, 2011) When it comes to drifting at PGP, we believe big is good, but BIGGER IS BETTER!
This Saturday we’re putting our track where our mouth is by hosting the 2nd annual Bigger Foot Bash Tandem Event.
Starting at 11 a.m., Formula Drift professional Kyle Pollard and more than 30 of the region’s best drifters will be divided up into teams of two and three to showcase their unbelievable skills on PGP’s .082-mile course.
“I like that (PGP is) challenging, but not too challenging. The back section has very fluid lines which allow for some close tandems. It’s a very driver-friendly course for all skill levels,” said the 29-year-old Pollard, who lives in Portland, Ore., and works as a fabricator at DOCrace.
Pollard, who described drifting as “figure skating with cars, except not nearly as boring,” has taken part in several previous events at PGP including last year’s inaugural Big Food Bash. Adding the team element and tandem drifting on PGP’s course was a big success for drivers and fans alike. “In a single pass you’re more focused on obtaining your own desired lined,” said Pollard. “But in tandem — if you are chasing — you’re mirroring the lead car's line while try to stay as close as possible.”
Drifting events at PGP are fun on and off the track and for the Bigger Foot Bash we’ll have live music by Dunjin, food and a beer garden. It costs $15 for spectators to get in and $25 for a ride-along with a drifter (note: those wanting a ride-along will need to find a driver willing to take them; PGP can’t guarantee space).
Last year, the Big Foot Bash “was amazing ... it was really just a bunch of friends hanging out and having the most fun someone could possibly have in one day and shredding tires,” said Pollard.
“PGP is much more interactive with the spectators than what I have seen (at other venues),” Pollard said. “PGP is very up close and personal when it comes to seeing the action on track as well as checking out some of the cars and chatting with the drivers.”
Pollard was introduced to drifting about eight years ago through friends. Like many others, he was hooked from the start and began watching videos online and he attended his competition in 2005. Flash forward to 2010 and Pollard was in his third year competing in a Toyota Corolla at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash.
After his impressive performance that year at the Evergreen Drift Pro-Am Pollard received a highly coveted invite to compete in the Formula Drift Pro-Am Nationals in Irwindale, Calif. Pollard received his professional Formula Drift license at Irwindale, and today he’s drifting a 1992 Nissan Silvia K’s.
The popularity and profile of drifting in the region has exploded in the past couple years, but Pollard still knows most of the more than 30 drivers from California, Oregon, Washington and Canada invited to take part in Saturday’s Bigger Foot Bash Tandem Event at PGP. It’s an event he’s had circled on his calendar for some time.
“I look forward to just getting out there with friends, burning up some tires and having a fun relaxing day at one of my favorite tracks in the Northwest.”
