UPPERLAKE, CA (June 27, 2013) 16-year old
Jeremy Doss from Upper Lake, CA has been waiting since March to return to Madera (CA) Speedway. His first outing in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour netted a 14th place finish, disappointing the rookie competitor. This Saturday he returns with
confidence and enthusiasm for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Firecracker "125" at the central California oval.
Since March a lot has changed. First the team has got a much better handle on the new Pathfinder chassis they have been working on. Second, Doss has shown significant improvement in each of the three SRL races since Madera. And lastly, Doss is coming off a dominating performance in the Southern Idaho "200" weekend where he scored two big victories and pocketed more than $12,000 in winnings.
"Winning in Idaho was really a big deal," Doss said. "We raced our SRL car both nights and both nights we had to come from the tail of the field to get the wins which is not easy. The RMCS guys are a bunch of great racers and we had to really work hard to get the wins."
Naturally, that kind of success will breed new confidence in the team that has struggled to find the sweet spot in their rookie foray into the SRL. "We have been doing a lot of R&D for Pathfinder," Doss offered. "Dale (Dodds) and my dad (Mike Doss) have been working really hard to get the chassis to work and we are really close. I am looking for a much better result at Madera this time around."
Madera is a tricky one-thrid mile oval that has hosted the Southwest Series for many years and has been the sight of some of the best short track action in California. The tight banked corners produce great side-by-side racing and if you are going to win at Madera you will have to be good both high and low.
"Obviously qualifying is critical," Doss pointed out. "Start up front and end up front is the goal. I think we will be pretty good on Saturday."
Doss is currently fifth in the point standings for the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour just 19-points out of fourth place. He is the rookie-of-the-year point leader in a stout field of twelve rookie competitors. He is also second in the Young Guns championship which will reward the top finishing driver under the age of 23 with a separate championship.
