ASA Racing Announces an Incredible and Unique Program for Short Track Racing
Kevin Ramsell/ASA Racing PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Thursday, November 1, 2012) – ASA Racing has announced a new benefit effective today. The “ASA Advantage Benefit Plan” is a new feature for ASA Members to purchase affordable health and life insurance plans for themselves, their family and for their workers if they own a small business. ASA Members will be able to purchase health and life plans at a group rate rather than an individual rate.
“When we started our ASA membership program, our goal was to find unique and valuable benefits for those who are dedicated to grass roots short track racing and for our ASA members,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said. “We have been constantly enhancing our membership program with what we feel our members need today while at the track and away from the track. This is a first of a kind product in short track racing overall and we are excited to provide this great opportunity today. Everyone is looking for affordable insurance and this will be a great place to find the specific plan they are looking for.”
The ASA Advantage Benefits Plan is a partnership with AmWINS Group Benefits, a provider of association insurance for association members.
The ASA Racing/AmWINS Group Benefits partnership was set up with the help of Jeff Ladd at Sports Insurance Specialists in Fort Wayne, IN. Sports Insurance Specialists is also the provider for ASA Racing, ASA Member Tracks and sanctioned series. “We brought our idea to Jeff and he and his staff jumped right on developing this program for us,” Huth said. “This continues to be a great partnership with SIS, and we are now able to work together, creating plans for our tracks, series, and members both at the track and away from the track. Together we are working on programs to protect those who enjoy and support short track racing like we do.”
"Working with ASA Racing is especially good since our products offer excellent coverage and affordability for ASA members," stated Ladd, president of Sports Insurance Specialists. "We understand the motorsports industry inside and out, and we recognize the need for strong benefits that can offset the risks involved with the sport. We worked hard with ASA to develop a program that not only provides greater support, but also greater peace of mind. That's exactly what SIS is all about."
“AmWINS understands Associations like ASA and their need to provide quality benefit programs for our members,” Huth explained. “They have a relationship with more than 200 leading insurance carriers and benefit manufacturers, enabling them to provide ASA members a broad access of benefit solutions.”
The ASA Advantage Benefits Plans offers options in:
Health Insurance
Term Life Insurance
Simplified Issue
Dental Plan (not available in all states)
Prescription Plan
Pet Insurance
Small Business
ASA Members can start looking today by visiting: http://speedwayeduseries.com/asa_advantage or http://asa-racing.com.
As a leading third party administrator, AmWINS Group Benefits has gained an exceptional reputation through its proficiency in designing, implementing, and administering cost saving and innovative benefit solutions.
“What makes ASA Racing unique as a sanctioning body is that we are not simply focused on what we can do for our members at the track, but what we can do for them away from the track,” Huth said. “But, this is not just for the members themselves. They can find plans for their families and if they are a small business owner, find affordable plans for their employees. We feel this program continues to show our dedication to grass roots short track racing.”
Huth also stated that with the variety of insurance carriers that AmWINS works with, a member should be able to find an affordable plan that is best suited for them, their family and employees.

McDougald Recaps Charity Kart Race
Tacoma, Washington –
10-2-2012 – The 1st annual "Laps For Little Ones - Karting For Kids Grand Prix" took place at PGP Motorsports Park last September 29th and driver of the #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Fast Track Sims / Ringers Gloves Toyota Camry, "Terrible" Tim McDougald was all too excited to be a part of helping to raise money for the cause.
The "Laps For Little Ones - Karting For Kids Grand Prix" kicked off it's inaugural running of the fund raiser benefiting "Dentistry For Underprivileged Children". A solid group of racers made up of a couple drivers, some crew members and some friends gathered at PGP Motorsports Park in Kent, Washington to take on the big 9/10th mile, 15 turn National Course layout. With a bright sunny day on tap and temperatures around 60 degrees, it was shaping up to be the perfect day.
While this race was purely for fun, there would be a format to follow. The field would take to the course for a short practice session, letting the drivers become familiar with the layout. Then the group would run a short Heat Race that would be used to place them in either the A or B Main. Main Event lineup would be determined by the driver's fastest lap in the Heat Race. The group also chose to do a full field invert for the A Main, giving the faster drivers more of a challenge and the fans on hand the chance to see some passing take place.
After the practice and Heat Race it was becoming clear who the hands-on favorites would be, and to no one's surprise "Terrible" Tim was turning out to be one of the fast ones. "I had a pretty good kart in that Heat," said McDougald with a smile. "It laid down a pretty fast lap, improved on my fast lap from the practice session by about 2 seconds so I was pretty happy with that. It was probably because it was the #9 kart, Kasey Kahne and all that. I also noticed a couple other guys picked up about 2 seconds as well, so it all balanced out I guess. I was pretty excited to make the A Main; I thought it was going to be tough just to get in there. The entire group was only separated by less than 2 seconds so it's a fast, tight group."
With the field taking shape for the A Main, the drivers would line up on the grid. The start of this race would be a Formula-1 style "Standing Start". McDougald would find himself starting shotgun on the field. "I'm not real sure what happened when we came to the grid," said "Terrible" Tim. "I was supposed to be 1 row in front of the last row and on the inside. But somehow a couple guys rushed around me and took the spots so I gridded in the last position. Ultimately I really didn't care. It's for fun and 1 spot isn't going to matter that much. I wasn't sure the inside was the spot to be anyway. I know it looked like a long way to the front from back there though!"

McDougald would take his 4th place to the finish, missing the trophy spots by a single position. "I'm pretty happy with my run to be honest," said an ecstatic "Terrible" Tim. "After that turn 1 ordeal I thought my race was over. So to rally back to a 4th is pretty awesome! In the end, it's all for a good cause so the finish really doesn't matter. We all left with huge smiles on our faces so I think that's a win right there. Any time I can come out and do something like this, have this much fun and help out a charity is a good day in my book!"

"Terrible" Tim Racing For Kids
Tacoma, Washington –
9-24-2012 – "Terrible" Tim McDougald; driver of the #68 KMB Design / Hargis
Engineers / Print-NW / Fast Track Sims / Ringers Gloves Toyota Camry, will be taking
to a different seat this weekend as he heads to Pacific Motorsports Park to take part in the
first annual "Laps For Little Ones - Karting For Kids Grand Prix".
In what is sure to be a fun filled day of small car action, McDougald will don his
helmet one last time for the 2012 racing season, but the view from this driver's seat will
look much different than what the Tacoma, Washington driver is use to seeing. "I'm not a
kart driver by any means," said "Terrible" Tim. "But I'm looking forward to having some
fun and raising some money for this charity and I think that's the main agenda here." The
charity kart race will kick off Saturday, the 29th at roughly 10:30am and run until
roughly 5:00pm. All money raised will go to benefit the Donald B. Weller Memorial
Foundation, whose focus is "Helping underprivileged children receive the dental care
they need".
"I'm looking forward to this one," said McDougald. "I had one of my racing
friends contact me and tell me 'You should sign up for this', so I did. The racing
community is a pretty tight knit group; we do what we can to help out. I like being a part
of these events, helping out in the community and when you can do that while having fun
like this it just makes it even better. I took part in the 'Toys For Tots' race at Apex
Karting a couple years ago before they closed up. That was a lot of fun, a great charity
and I was sad to see it end. So when this one came up I jumped on it."
"Terrible" Tim's sponsors are also a big part of this charity event. "I have to thank
my sponsors again for this one," said McDougald. "I couldn't do these things without
them and they are also the reason I do them. I love being able to represent my sponsors in
the community, through these kinds of events. I always look for things we can do away
from the track and this one fit right in. It's still a racing themed event, but it isn't the
typical racing event we do. KMB design groups and Hargis Engineers both stepped up to
cover my entry fee plus an extra donation to the charity. I really can't thank them enough
for the support they have shown me. It will be an honor to represent them during this
event and I hope to make them proud. But really, raising money for this charity is a win
right there."

Van Dam And Crockett To Battle For Title In Central Washington
By Ben Deatherage
Yakima, Washington- With the championship weekend only days away the Yakima Dirt Track anticipates the arrival of the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region to settle the battle for the title. A struggle for the crown will come down to the final laps of the last race of the night. Twenty-three points is the interval between leader in the standings Henry Van Dam and runner-up Roger Crockett.
Both drivers have managed to put some rather consistent finishing records. Crockett is the only one among the two to have won an ASCS race at Yakima that one coming back in 2010. The Rocket also has five victories with the Northern Sprint Tour earning wins between the years 2002-06. Van Dam to his credit has only finished outside the top ten once in eight races since under the ASCS banner back in 2008.
“Yakima is always a fun place to race a lot of my family make the trip over and the track itself is a racy joint,” explained current standings leader Henry Van Dam, “Our team has got to treat the weekend just like any other and keep it in that aspect and just do the best we can and hopefully end the weekend as the points leader.”
We mentioned the consistent finishing records of the pair but something interesting is their average finishes over the course of the ASCS-Northwest Region paying visit to the central Washington facility. Crockett has an average finish of sixth place according to the data collected and Henry Van Dam, seventh.
“Our team is going into the weekend with a deficit and we know we must win both days to have a shot and if we can do that we can put the necessary pressure on him,” commented defending series champion Roger Crockett, “the task is by no means going to be an easy one to accomplish but we’ve had success at that place several times and have won quite a few events too.”
Both drivers have a little of momentum in favor of them with each of them earning a win respectively last weekend as Van Dam earned his third win of the year at Gray Harbor Raceway in Elma. Crockett captured his fifth triumph of the campaign with Interstate Sprint Car Series at the recently reopened Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon.
Mitch Olson is third in points and the 2012 Seedweek Northwest winner is the only other driver within one-hundred points behind Henry Van Dam, in fact seventy-four points behind to be exact. Reece Goetz and Cam Smith complete the top five in the points table going in the final weekend.
Will Van Dam earn his first title and hoist the crown come Saturday night? Will Crockett repeat and become a three-time ASCS-Northwest Region champion? All eyes will be on Yakima.
The race will be held in conjunction with the annual Central Washington State Fair. Racing will start around six o’clock on each night. Tires and fuel will be sold on both days at the race track.
The American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region is the westernmost arm of the American Sprint Car Series sanctioning body located in the Pacific Northwest the series hosts 360 Sprint Car racing on dirt tracks throughout Oregon and Washington from May to September. For more information on the latest news and stories about the series log onto their website at www.ascsnorthwest.com or www.ascsracing.com.

Rough Night Closes Out Season For HWR
Tacoma, Washington –
9-17-2012 – Saturday, September 15th saw the 2012 racing season at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe come to a close for the Super Late Model division. HayWire Racing suffered through a very rough night to close out their season as the #92 Mo-Dane Trucking / RPM Sales & Service / Vital Signs Chevrolet Impala and driver Tommy Rasmussen were involved in a massive crash that ended in an even bigger fire.
With fire being any racers worst nightmare, Tommy Rasmussen found himself confronted with it rather up close and personal in the first Main Event of a Twin-50 night on the big 5/8ths mile oval at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington. Rasmussen was running mid pack simply making laps and looking for a checkered flag on what would have been a decent run that would keep him in that 10th place points spot as the season drew to a close when out of nowhere a lapped car spun in turn 1 and Rasmussen and his #92 Mo-Dane Trucking / RPM Sales & Service / Vital Signs Chevrolet Impala had nowhere to go, hitting the spinning car very hard.
The impact proved to be at just the right angle and location to knock the fuel pump off the spinning car and cause a very large fire to engulf the damaged racecar. In a true testament to the safety of today's racecars, both drivers walked away from the inferno with minimal injuries and zero burns. For Rasmussen, his night would be over as his #92 Mo-Dane Trucking / RPM Sales & Service / Vital Signs Chevrolet Impala suffered a bent frame in the impact. This also meant that his hopes of finishing his season in that 10th points position were also over. The team will head back to the shop thankful that their driver is uninjured and begin making repairs for the coming 2013 racing season.
As for "Terrible" Tim McDougald and the #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Fast Track Sims / Ringers Gloves Toyota Camry, the night was much different. McDougald came to the track without his car due to budget constraints but found himself in the announcer's booth calling the Super Late Model Main Events along side track announcer Scott Ellsworth. "Terrible" Tim took to the microphone quickly assisting Ellsworth with color commentary and insights from a driver's perspective as well as extra information gained from talking to drivers between Main Events while walking through the pits.
The toughest part for McDougald would come when his brother was in that previously mentioned incident involving the huge fire. "Terrible" Tim found himself torn between emotional strife over his brother's situation and the need to keep the fans in attendance calm and unalarmed. "That was a tough one for me," said McDougald. "On the one hand I wanted to just bolt out of there and go help my brother get out of that car. On the other hand I felt like I had a duty to keep the fans calm and make them understand that it isn't quite as bad as it might look. Keeping your emotions in check isn't something I'm particularly good at, so it was a tough situation for me. But not near as tough a situation as the one my brother was dealing with. I'm just happy he was ok."
The small family team based in a little shop in Graham, Washington has a lot of work ahead of them to prepare for the 2013 racing season. The plans now include the rebuild of the damaged #92 Mo-Dane Trucking / RPM Sales & Service / Vital Signs Chevrolet Impala; a car they only raced twice after Rasmussen purchased it during this season, and the complete build of a new and hopefully improved #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Fast Track Sims / Ringers Gloves Toyota Camry. A large task ahead of them, but a dedication to return to the Speedway will see it through.
Fans can follow along through out the off-season and keep up to date on the latest news by visiting the team's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/haywireracing or by checking the team's blog which can be found on the team's main webpage at www.haywire-racing.com or by following "Terrible" Tim on Twitter at www.twitter.com/terribletim68. NASCAR selects 17 year old, Jessica Dana to participate in the Drive for Diversity Combine
Now just 18 races into her career, Jessica Dana will compete this Saturday at Evergreen Speedway in her last race of this season at the Super Speedway of the West, it will be Jessica’s third experience with speeds approaching 150 mph.
“I had so much fun at the track and with the people at Evergreen,” said Jessica, after competing in the Summer Showdown June 28 & 29. After qualifying 37 of 41 in the Summer Showdown, Jessica managed to climb to 5th place by lap 135 in the caution flagged filled race by being patient and taking care of her car. Contact with a lap car at lap 145, ended her night early.
Jessica’s father, Troy Dana said “We are excited for Jess and the team; our expectations are fairly modest at this point given the caliber of the drivers selected by the program in the past.”
New Sponsors Heavy Equipment Supply Source and Budsberg Law Group have joined season long sponsors such as OBEE Credit Union, Pints and Quarts, Print Northwest, 94.5 Roxy, Fusion Graphix, Putnam & Lieb, Knight Fire Protection, River’s Edge, and Spin Tees. “We are thrilled about our new relationship with this talented young lady and her dedicated team” said Mike Sonderby, President/CEO, Heavy Equipment Supply Source.

NASCAR selects 17 year old, Jessica Dana to participate in the Drive for Diversity Combine
Olympia, WA. — (September 19th, 2012) Washington’s 17 year old racing sensation Jessica Dana has been selected with 15 other drivers from around the Country to compete in NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity Combine, at Langley Speedway, VA. Rev Racing, based in Charlotte, NC, in partnership with NASCAR, will select an undisclosed number of drivers from the Combine, October 16 – 18, 2012, for the 2013 team. If chosen after the combine evaluation, the driver will be offered a full time, fully funded ride with a K&N East or Late Model Team based out of Charlotte, NC. NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity, adapted in 2004 and is designed to attract women and minorities to the sport. The Combine evaluates drivers for car knowledge, physical fitness, driving abilities and personality.
Now just 18 races into her career, Jessica Dana will compete this Saturday at Evergreen Speedway in her last race of this season at the Super Speedway of the West, it will be Jessica’s third experience with speeds approaching 150 mph.

MOLLY HELMUTH RACES TO FIRST LATE-MODEL PODIUM FINISH
SEATTLE — (Sept. 7, 2012) Teenager Molly Helmuth reached another milestone in an already impressive racing career with her first podium finish in a late-model stock car on Sept. 1, 2012 at her home track of Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash.
The Roosevelt High School senior became the first female late-model racer to reach Evergreen's podium since Natalie Sather's victory in 2009, and at 17 she is the youngest female driver ever to record a top-three finish in the division at "The Superspeedway of the West."
"I couldn't ask for a better night. So many emotions were going through my head when I took the checkered flag, I wasn't even sure if I got on the podium until I looked at the scoreboard," said Molly. "I am just so thankful to be able to participate in such a competitive and expensive sport. I have the best support system, my mom and dad, sister, crew, fans, teachers and sponsors. I wouldn't have the strength to be doing this sport without their support."
Molly's third-place finish kept her in the lead in the Super Late Model division Rookie of the Year standings for Washington state in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) and the track with just two races left. In 2010, Molly became the youngest driver ever to win Rookie of the Year honors in the NWAAS Mini-Stock Division and getting to make the trip to Charlotte, N.C., for the annual NASCAR Awards Banquet as a late-model racer was one of her goals for the season.
"Having watched her progression from karts to Pro4 trucks, Mini Stocks, Midgets and now Super Late Models has been really fun for us. In just the last two seasons to see her grow and mature is truly amazing," said Doug Hobbs, president of Evergreen Speedway. " All of the training and seat time have paid big dividends this season. As great as Molly's accomplishments in the race car may be, she is a great young lady with a heart of gold and spirit to match. I can't say how proud we are to have Molly call Evergreen Speedway her home track."
The Molly Helmuth Racing team has designated Saturday, Sept. 15, the night of the season's final two Super Late Model races at Evergreen Speedway, as "Molly Day" to give fans and sponsors the chance to cheer the young racer on. The MHR team will host an open house from 5-9 p.m. on Friday at their shop in Seattle and there will be a special fan section in the grandstands for the race.
"The last couple of races I have been having such horrible luck, but now I feel as though the luck is coming back around to the MHR team," said Molly. "I have to thank Security Imaging, Jana Helmuth CPA, Epic Firearms, Lynnwood Napa Auto Parts, Squires Machine, Chermak Construction, Doxon Motors and Fitn Trim Racing for their dedication to the MHR team."
Having an edge in the rookie standings is all the more significant as Molly has not raced in every event at Evergreen this season. She has also recorded two podium finishes in the USAC NorCal Ignite Midget Series at Stockton 99 Speedway in California while competing for the prestigious Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development program. Earlier this year, Molly was one of just nine selected from 965 applicants for the RSWC program.
"Molly has amazed me from the beginning of the season, with her ability to calculate the other drivers, avoid the craziness and even when spun, stay focused like no other driver," said Greg Bennett, Molly's crew chief and spotter. "Especially when you have to remember that she is only 5-foot-1 and 100 pounds, and is wheeling a 2,700-pound stock car against guys twice her size. Her abilities are what brought me to this team, her attitude and drive are what keep me working hard to give her the best car we can."
Channeling that drive and ambition, and building on the experience she has accumulated racing in the Sutton program and other divisions at Evergreen, Molly accomplished her career-best late-model finish in impressive fashion. After dropping out of the first race of the evening due to a mechanical problem, she started the 35-lap nightcap near the rear of the field and made her way to the front while avoiding multiple incidents and making a brilliant save.
"Molly did an outstanding job of avoiding a big wreck coming out of turn four. She got hit, spun, almost hit the wall, but kept the car straight and heading forward, with a torn driver's door," said Bennett. "After avoiding wrecks and spins all around her, Molly drove hard and made her way to fourth, then dodging more mayhem she brought the No. 92 home with a third-place finish, and her first podium!"
Although the race was "wild" because of the incidents, Molly said she went into it knowing her car was good enough to run through the field after starting 14th out of 17 drivers. "After the panhard bar mount broke in the first main event, I was ready to get my revenge and fight up to the front," she added. "The communication between myself and Greg Bennett was fantastic, and I was extremely calm the whole race."
Tom Hughs, the veteran late-model racer who won the race, was impressed with his much younger competitor: "It was fun racing with Molly during the second main event. She was right on my tail for about 20 laps straight. I couldn't shake her. Even during a couple re-starts, she was right there the whole time. Even though the race was full of incidents, she raced me clean the whole night."
